I have heard and seen Bertke's name a lot on BGP and just saw it in the paper today. I dont know what the deal is, are there some very bias opinions? Sounds like coachg13207 knows him well and has seen him play. Do you have any information on Bertke for us coach???

 

Yes ,I have seen him play a time or two.Young MR. Bertke will be just fine .The couple times I seen him pitch he seems to keep the ball down moves in and out and is not afraid to come in on the hands .As a freshman he will not be dominant ,IMO.He should get his fair share ground balls as long as he does what he did then .

 

As far as biased opinions .Unfortunately ,it seems there may be some differing opinions .I am not sure these comments are made because of his talents or those hoping he does not succeed because he is a freshman .As an 8th grader he pitched varsity games vs the likes of Holmes ,Bellevue and NCC .He gave up about 6 runs vs NCC.Granted ,and not down grading anyone ,but NCC was by far the better hitting team.

 

Beechwood needs to play as a team regardless of what grade a player is in .The players need to realize not 1 of these players will win without the entire team contributing all they can and supporting each other .It should not matter what the grade .From the freshman of Leeke simply pinch-running to Bertke and Larimore eating innings on the mound through the senior class ,there is alot of talent in this Tiger team.

I only saw him pitch once last year in the JV regional semi's versus Ryle. He looks like he will be a good pitcher in coming years. On this particular day he didn't get a ton of help defensively and was hit hard at times. Ryle mercy ruled Beechwood 10-0.

 

Agreed this was not a good day for the Tigers .Ryle played great and dominated this game .Yes Bertke may have not pitched his best but he was an 8 th grader .Maybe that game will help him grow as a player and understand what needs to be done .The team Beechwood put on the field that day was a couple players from being a freshman team .They were young and still are .Kind of like playing summer ball as a 14 year old and going to play a 16 or 17 year old team .I am pretty sure most of that Ryle was sopmore and junior .

I don't think so. With Beechwood's staff, I don't he'd pitch much at all. If he does, I would consider it a bad sign for the others at Beechwood from whom much is being expected.

 

Not sure why you think it would be a bad sign .He made several appearances last year and competed well most of the time .All pitchers have bad days .If you can have a freshman eat innings and keep all the other arms fresh for other games I see it as a plus.

Their regional championship team last year was made up of 13 sophomores and 4 freshman. 3 of the freshman got extensive playing time during the season and in that game.

You guys are funny, but truthfully Niehaus is a very nice pitcher and if he plays his cards right he could play at the next level, but I don't know about the other two.

Holocher doesn't have the arm to play in D1 baseball. Its average at best at the high school level which doesn't translate very well into college especially at D1

Not that it matters all that much, but Ryle did not have any juniors on their JV last year. They were comprised entirely of freshman and sophomores throughout the season, including the above run-rule game against BHS.
