What Pitino Has To Prove: He has not beaten UK in three straight seasons. When he was hired Cardinal fans (and many if not most UK fans) thought U of L would start owning this series - it hasn't happened. Lousiville was thought to be a number one/number two seed and a potential final four team this year - but they have gotten off to a stumbling start for the second consecutive season. And above all - if this team fails to get it going and make something happen in the tournament, word and speculation is that the Lousiville fan base will really turn up the heat on him in the offseason.

What Gillispie Has To Prove: Can the team play against stiffer competetion the way it played against FIU? Can he coach a team with such a lack of talent and such a horrible start into decent conference record and perhaps a post season birth? Can he go 2-0 against Pitino (I don't think they have faced off other than last year, have they?)? How will he respond to the rilvary and what is sure to be an insane crowd on Saturday?

I think it's fairly evident - Pitino has more to prove within this particular season. While none of us thought that UK's season would start this poor - we were never expected to be all that good. Lousville on the other hand, as I mentioned above, was a pre-season final four pick. Pitino hasn't beaten UK in 3 years meaning a loss Saturday will mean his seniors never picked up a win over their biggest rival.

A loss Saturday for Gillispie will mean just another loss on a horid season. A loss Saturday for Pitino could mean intense fan and media presure and questioning of his peformance sense taking over for Coach Crum!

I think this sums it up very well....:thumb:

Seeing as Pitino has a national championship, has taken three different teams to the final four, and is no doubt a future hall of famer, I'd say that pretty much sums up that Billy Clyde has a bit more to prove. Just my opinion though.

I concur

I agree that BCG has more to prove, but I think Pitino has more on the line.

I am confused....

Pitino has proven himself over and over (won title, been to the final four multiple times). BCG hasn't proven nearly as much.

However, losing this game hurts Louisville/Pitino more than it would hurt UK. UofL came into the season ranked very highly and has underperformed. Losing to a pretty bad UK team could put this team into a tailspin (Football season anyone?)

While UK may be underperforming as well, nobody expected them to be great this year. They also have a lot of valid reasons why they aren't doing well. And, they wouldn't be expected to beat UofL even if they were playing up to their pre-season ranking.

I agree.

My thoughts exactly when I read the title.

I think your missing the point. This is in regards to now, this season.

I think Pitino has more to prove. Hes lost to UK three years in a row, and Louisville is supposed to be a top 5 team. Billy G is just getting started so a loss for him wouldnt be unexpected with this team. Pitino has had time to build a program, Billy hasent.

I know.

I don't think either of them have anything particular to prove.
