CovCath vs Mason County Predictions

Featured Replies

Ladies and Gentlemen round two is about to start....

CovCath lost to Mason County in CovCath's third game of the season in their first appearance ever at the Fieldhouse. Mason County took it to the Colonels in the third quarter and built up a 26 point lead before CovCath knew what hit them. However in their "with a spirit, that will not die" attitude that all CovCath basketball teams have had over the years, CovCath came back strong to whittle down the Royals lead to only single digits at one point near the end of the fourth quarter.

The questions for this game are:

Will playing on a neutral floor make a difference?

While Miller will get his points, will CovCath be able to stop Setty who scored 21 for the Royals in the first game?

Will Mason be able to hold the Colonels to just 34.5% shooting from the floor?

These and many more questions will be answered today at 6pm in Lexington at the LexCath Holiday Classic.

The CovCath vs. Mason County game will be broadcast live from LexCath over the CovCath Internet Radio Network. Feel free to tune in, but if you are not a CovCath fan understand this, this game and all the other games that the CovCath outstanding announcers do, are for the enjoyment of the CovCath fans! If by tuning in to this free service paid for by the CovCath Boosters you don't like that they root for CovCath, then by all means go to another station to listen to their announcers. Mark and Jason are kind enough to take on this task as volunteers and have real jobs and families when not broadcasting these games. IMO they do an outstanding job. Thanks Mark and Jason.

BTW, Marks comment about Mason County was made when I yelled at him from the stands about a "rematch". Being the responsible and professional person he is, he didn't want to discount the possiblity that June Buchanon just might pull off the upset and didn't want to show any disrespect to JBS.....

Please say a prayer for Coach Tieman who is currently under the weather. To understand long Mr. T has been at CovCath, he taught me in my freshmen year.... Get well Coach T, you are in our prayers....

CovCath Colonel Varsity Basketball vs. Mason County Royals

live from the LexCath Holiday Classic

starting @ 6:00PM (EST)

Before Cth made this comeback didn't Mason pull the starters only to put them back in when Cath got on a little bit of a run.

Mason will roll in this one as they did before.

While it would be fun to see a NKY team like CCH pull off this upset, in reality I just don't see it? Mason has too many weapons, and while the neutral court will be a plus for CovCath vs. the first game; I'm afraid Mason's staff will remember thay had the Colonels down 30 something and let them off the hook. Don't think you'll see a repeat of that and Mason cruises into the finals 72-60??

Looking at the play by play stats of the game:

Miller was taken out in the third quarter with 1:59 left, but returned to the game to start the fourth quarter.

Setty left the game at the 3:04 minute mark of the third quarter but also returned to the game to start the fourth quarter.

King left the game at the 2:21 minute mark of the third quarter but also returned to the game to start the fourth quarter.

So yes they did leave and returned but CovCath was still down by 21 at the start of the fourth quarter and got it back down to 10 points by the end of the game against the Mason County starters....

Mason by 8 in the rematch. 64-56. Will the CovCath crazies be out in full force like they were at Mason Co.?

Highly doubt it.... Most of the Crazies are working, while some are on vacations with their families. Hard to get permission to be off from work at the last minute to attend a basketball game. Why work? Many upperclassmen have to work during the holidays to help with the tuition that their families pay to attend CovCath and of course to save some money for College....

I don't have all the stats, but were the Royals in full force the entire 4th quarter?

Also the final score was more delightful than the game it self. Cov. Cath had several buckets in the last min.

Can CCH win? Maybe. The stars will have to be aligned just right.

It will be fun to see what adjustments are made. MC killed CCH with lots of pressure on the ball just across the division line. That led to many errant passes resulting in easy buckets for MC. I'd be curious to see the points of turnovers numbers from the first game.

MC wins and probably wins rather comfortably but you just never know.

It looks like from the play by play, that Mason used what I would call/guess, is their normal rotation. Setty, King and Miller were still in the game at the .45 second mark of the fourth quarter.

Mason had (per the CovCath stats) 14pts from turnovers while CovCath had 8pts from Mason County turnovers..

The biggest stat of the game was CovCath shooting only 34.5% from the floor & 42.1% from the Free throw line while Mason shot 49.2 from the floor & 66.7% from the Free throw line. Of course Mason had a lot to do with the 34.5% shooting night that the Colonels had...

No matter how you look at it, Cov Cath got blown out and never seriously threatened to win the game in the second half.

When a team gets up 25 it is fairly nomal for a team to relax some. No reason to hash over the last game. Today's game is being played under different circumstances.

That was then and this is now.

Very little game prep for this one...unlikely either team will get much more than a walkthrough for this one. It will be the third game in three days for both, I believe, so despite depth for either team both will likely be a little weary, physically and mentally...particularly for MC because of the road they have had to hoe for the last two weeks particularly coming off a trip to Hawai'i.

I think this one will be much closer than the first one and obviously MC will be favored. But in these tourney's as you get deeper in the tournament, who knows...

Mason County 77

CovCath 59

I think Cov Cath will keep it close going into the fourth but Mason will pull away winning 74-60
