Almost Every State Champ team in the United States

Featured Replies

I didn't realize that California only had three divisions. The playoffs must start in August.

I'm pretty sure California has playoffs in each of three divisions for both Northern and Southern California; who then playoff for the eventual state champion. (N. CA Div 1 champ vs. S. CA Div 1 Champ, etc.)

How can Massachusetts actually crown 20 state champs?? It's harder to win a region in KY??

I counted only around 1100 schools listed on the NORCAL an SOCAL Football School lists. That's still a lot of schools for only 3 state champions.

I got the number from Google, but after checking that number is all schools in California not just high schools.

There actually is 1,425 schools listed in CA.

Well my old school in Mississppi lost in the championship, very interesting, thanks!

I do not think they have overall state champions. De la Salle according to websites speaks of winning Northern Section Championships, not state titles.

For those interested here's the link--The "State Championships" between Norcal and Socal teams (3 divisions) were played December 15th.

Living in California most of my life I always thought the playoff system was the greatest. You don't make the playoffs unless you have a good team. Unlike Kentucky where a team can loose all their games and still make the playoffs. I like it when you earn a spot in the playoffs.

California actually has 2079 High Schools in California including the private high schools. With three divisions that would mean that your team must be better than approximately 692 schools to win a state Championship.

Now lets see here. In Kentucky we have 6 divisions and 200 schools. Now that would be approximately 32 schools that you would need to be better than to win a state championship. Before you jump on me I realize that the divisions are not even across the board and these are just averages.

I'm sorry but I just absolutely hate how Kentucky has watered the playoffs down.

The way it works in California, they only have the top 3 divisions play for a State Championship. This is actually something new for California. You have the the top 3 schools from the North play against the top 3 from the South. There is no playoff system and the schools that are chosen to play are picked by a committee. So, you could go undefeated through the year and still not get chosen to play in the championship game. The voters are really biased towards the LA City teams and believe that all the talent is located outside of the city. (Orange County, private schools, etc). The team that lost to DeLasales this year should not have even played in the game, it should have been a city school, but, because, the team that did play, beat the city school in week one, they chose that school. There are way too many schools in Calif to have a true playoff system.

Sounds like a great idea..much better than this playoff thing we have going:flame:

Just think if we only had 3 state champs they could put the usual suspects in different games and they could win every year instead of every 9 out of 10. LOL I think KY should divide private and public anyway. And do away with a team making the playoffs that can't beat their own middle school teams. Just my opinion but it would make for better games as a whole.

Also, I'd like to add to the California information.

The ONLY way that you can be eligible for the California state championship game is to win your respective CIF Section championship.

not to hijack a thread but, how many private schools does KY have? Is there enough to make this worthwhile?

Which is a true statement, so after your regular season, you do play in a playoff system. For example, in the City, there are two divisions (Championship (for large schools) and Invitational (for large and small schools that don't feel they would do well in the Championship division.) You are ranked and seeded according to how you did during the year and if you won your league (about 5 teams), then you play in the playoffs. The playoffs, run from the beginning of November until right before Thanksgiving. There are 16 teams in each playoff.

Growing up in Texas this is what they do and I think it is great. But here in Texas private schools are not as abundant as they are here in Kentucky. Most of the private schools are small schools and would fall under the 2A - 3A catergory.
