Gotta be Superbad. An instant classic in the comedy world

 

If you had said that around the time it came out, I would have agreed. I am not so sure now. The movie was hilarious yes, and it sent the career of Jonah Hill into overdrive - but I dont know the film will have the staying power of more recent "comedy classics" such as 40 Year Old Virgin and Napolean Dynomite.

 

I just havent seen the over use of McLovin lines that I thought we would be seeing with the release of the DVD. The superfandom that came with 40 Year Old Virgin, Napolean Dynomite, Old School, and other "classics" hasnt really hit yet. I would say that it probably will, but as of now, jury is out though.

 

Great movie though.

Oh and about 300...that doesnt even deserve to be on the top 20 list of movies for 2007. I like what Sarah Silverman said. They got the name 300 by judging how gay it was on a scale of 1-10.

The best film of 2007 was Enchanted. Amy Adams was phenomal. Other favorites were Music and Lyrics, Zodiac, 3:10 to Yuma, Superbad, Knocked Up, Grindhouse, and Disturbia.

 

If you want to talk critically - the best films will probably be Atonement and Charlie Wilson's War. American Gangster was good for the last 30 minutes and the acting was terrific, but it was 2 hours of painstaking build up for an unsatisfying conclusion.

However, you lost ALL credibility when you chose Enchanted as the best of the year and you followed it up with a Hugh Grant/Drew Barrymore romantic comedy. Are you sure you were listening to what Silverman was saying before you made your choices? Hmmm more manly, an epic about the Spartan Warriors or a fairy tale and a disposable romantic comedy......I'll let the masses decide.

I saw it for a second time tonight, great movie. Probably the best written and acted movie of the year. There was just something about 300, the emotions, the quotes, the effects that made me pick it.

Sense when does a "more manly" movie make one good? I am sorry - 300 would have been better if it had not had those stupid monster like characters in it. Cyclopses, hunchbacks, and crap like that? A little too Spartacus meets Harry Potter for me.

 

Enchanted was a great movie! I am not a bit ashamed to say that. I fear your testosterone is making you choose the "manly" movie over the "good" movie. I dont doubt the "masses" will agree with you, afterall we are on a sports forum where the testosterone levels are probably out of control.

 

Don't fear being cultured and enjoying the finer things in life. I am in no way saying that "Enchanted" is of a pure culture content...but for instance - See "Across the Universe" as opposed to "Die Hard." Or "Atonement" as opposed to "I am Legend".

 

In fact, see anything before I am Legend. God, that movie is awful.

I haven't seen American Gangster but I understand it's up there.

300 hands down though.

Are you kidding me? I Am Legend was one of the biggest let downs in the history of cinema. All that build up for nothing. A boring story line. Very 2D characters. Boring and a waste of 8 bucks.

 

The worst part about it was that the "dark seekers", the monsters of the film, are horribly animated. They look like they should be characters on Jimmy Neutron. It was easy to see that the director had little experience, especially with big budget sci fi. Will Smith way over acted, the story line was completely unbelieavable, and the move was not "very, very good." or even "very very bad." It was bad as a movie of that hype could possibly be.

The storyline was definitely unbelievable... zombies are highly unlikely to ever exist. It doesn't mean it's not entertaining, although I admit I am bias because I love those post-apocolyptic/pandemic scenarios (read The Stand by Stephen King... fantastic).

I do agree that the monsters were overdone with the CG. They would've been better off, and probably had to spend less money if they had gotten extras and makeup.

 

But overall I thought it was a well done and entertaining movie. The ending should've been different, but I don't make movies... yet.

I still need to see I Am Legend, No Country For Old Men, and Charlie Wilsons War. But I got to go with American Gangster as of now.

It's my opinion... I'll respect your's and not rip you apart for liking Enchanted, let alone seeing it...
