Thank you Knife. Actually cinematic quality films being represented here. I can not wait to see Juno. I havent gotten to see Gone Baby Gone yet either, but I absolutely loved Mystic River which was also written by Lehan.

Come on man, lower your brow a little. A movie doesn't have to be as influential as Citizen Kane, as romantic as Casablanca, or as lame as Gone With the Wind to be a quality film. Practice that suspension of disbelief.

 

And seeing from the comedic movies you liked in the other thread (Napolean Dynamite, Old School, Superbad), I think you'd probably like the type of movies I've written.

Just for the record...I never said that I liked those comedies that you are referring to. I was pointing out that Dynomite and Old School were both considered modern comedic land mark films. I did enjoy Old School and Superbad. ND had it's moments.

Good luck with the writing though. Screenwriting is a very tricky craft. One I have dabbled in, and had a lot of fun with. I wrote a screenplay on the Zodiac killer a few years back. Sorry to say, it wasn't nearly the genius of the this year's film adapation.

I really liked Zodiac but I couldn't remember if it came out in December or January.

I bet you never had any older brothers that bombarded you with B-horror movies... I've seen so many MUCH worse movies than that.

There is a certain format that you have to write them in, atleast when you present your finished project. There are a lot of books and several websites that can help you out. There are a couple books that, when I first picked up the craft, I was told were the "bibles of screen writing" I am pretty sure one is called The Bible of Screenwriting or something similar, and then one is by Robert McKee - I think its called "Story." or something similar.

 

The format for a screenplay is a little funky. You begin a scene by doing something like this.

 

INT. BlUEGRASS PREPS MESSAGE BOARD - EARLY MORNING

 

INT - Inside

EXT - Outside

 

That line lets the director know where you, as the writer, wish the scene to take place.

 

For the nitty gritty details, you'll just have to read and look around. I do remember that the font has to be in 12 pt courier.
