Since when is the game over at the half? It was 31-13 at the end of the 3rd. The game was a blowout.

The question was asked if the Steelers "played with them some". 17-13 at half still a good game. All Pats in the 2nd.

Steelers gave up two monster plays one to Moss and a double backward pass from Brady to Moss back to Brady to Gaffney. Pittsburgh had the ball on the two in the third quarter and called the two horrible plays which would have cut the lead back to four they didnt score and New England then got in rythym throwing it short to the receiver from the side the blitz came from. New England played very good made some big plays and deserved the win.

Rough day for the kid that guaranteed the Steelers W.

The game may have ended up being a blowout but anyone who actually watched the whole game would know that the Steelers played tough until the 2nd half. Smith will learn from this, and the Steelers secondary definetely misses the knowledge of Troy P.

Even scarier thought. New England could be in line for the #2 pick in the draft if San Francisco keeps losing. McFadden in red, white, and blue? Brady, McFadden, Moss, and Stallworth. Yikes.

I'm not sold that the Pats will take McFadden...I think they'll be satisfied with Maroney and Morris to complement that great passing attack. I really think they need to add some youth, speed and athleticism to the mix in the LB group. Don't get me wrong, their LB core is great, but they're getting old and they have looked slow at times this year. It would be a great time to get a young LB or two in the mix and let them learn from guys like Vrabel and Bruschi while they're still playing well. If they could trade the pick for a later first rounder and another day one pick, they could probably snag a couple of solid defensive prospects.

 

Who knows how it will play out though? It's just my opinion, but I don't really expect them to take McFadden. Dorsey is a possibility I suppose, but most of their D-line is relatively young and it's one of the best in football. I don't see that as a high priority for them...of course, the team really doesn't have a weakness. So, by that logic, they don't have any priority in the draft.

As for the game itself, it did end up being a blowout, but the Steelers weren't outclassed as bad as the score looks. I think they played NE very similar to the way Philly and Baltimore did the past two weeks...the difference was that Pittsburgh couldn't finish their drives with TD's. They moved the ball quite well for large parts of the game, but came away with a TD and two FG's in the first half and nothing in the second. The Pats defense did a great job of stiffening in the red zone. If Pittsburgh can find a way to get it done in the red zone, a rematch could be much closer.

 

You have to score points against New England when you get in position to do it. If you don't, it will inevitably end up like yesterday. The offense will find it's rhythm and pick you apart. I think it allows everyone to relax and play loose when the defense is keeping the opponent off the scoreboard. Also, having Polamalu back should help.

 

I don't think Pittsburgh will win a rematch, but I wouldn't write them off because of the score yesterday. They were competitive for most of that game. The Pats did a nice job with their red zone defense first of all. And, with the score 17-13, NE put the game away with the trick play TD pass to Gaffney followed by a nother TD that put the game out of reach. This game could have easily been another nail-biter like the previous two with just a couple different bounces.

The first pssesion of the second half kind of dictated the 3rd quarter go 3 and out, then the defense gives up 6. Steelers really needed a good opening drive to start the second half. Give credit to the Pats they did what they had to, even throwing a Steelers trick play at them that went for a TD. Hope the steelers bounce back and start to peak in the next couple of weeks.

I agree. Maroney had a real nice year last year when they actually did run the ball. Maroney is sufficent enough for this team. I would love to see them get a great linebacker!

It was pretty much what I thought it would be. The amazing thing is that the Pats are so good that they enjoy being great at certain little things that go on in the game. It was obvious in the game that they had broken down Smith from film and picked on him deliberatly to prove a point that they weren't happy with his antics.

They abused him. The only thing I've seen comparable this year is when Romo and the Cowboys torched Al Harris in the Thursday night game. Of course, Harris didn't spout off...they just picked on him.
