Shooting spree at Omaha mall

First off, the whole commando reference is absurd.
Nope. Frankly, it's dead on.

It's easy to think you'd be a hero while talking about it. But the odds of a person in that situation having any effect at all are slim to none. Just too many human factors and tactical factors weighing against it.

You made the point that you have to have numbers...
Exactly. Our discussion was regarding a single, untrained individual with a concealed handgun.
Nope. Frankly, it's dead on.

BF, you would make a great Frenchman! Waive the white flag and everything will be ok.

You know I say that in gest, but come on.(Afterall you are a brother...sort of) I am sure there are plenty of the so called commandos out there. You have no idea what my background is, my training, my ability to handle high pressure situations. There are folks out there however that have the training, been in situations you will never know, and fortunately protect all of the gun control junkies that would rather leave all protection to those that carry a badge.

First off, the whole commando reference is absurd. I know you didnt make it but it was thrown out there. If I am 100 yds away, I am on the floor trying to get out just like anyone else. However, at 20 yds and in serious danger...I'm protecting myself and family vigorously.

I am not sure what you are talking about though when it comes to taking others with them? The object is to take out the shooter not those he is shooting at...he has proven he can do that pretty well on his own!

I was referring back to the shooter and others like him. (VTech, Columbine, etc.)

Speaking in general terms (as we were) it is without question that there is no way a weekend cowboy with a little gun in his pants is going to take down a crazed gunman, wielding overwhelming firepower. That's just common sense. And this has nothing to do with some hypothetical, trained sniper being at the exact right place, at the exact right time. That just doesn't happen in the real world.

If there are all these secret super-heroes wandering around, protecting all of us gun control nuts.....

...while it would be great if they were around to protect every person 100% of the time...they are not.

...why do we need to protect ourselves by carryying around pop guns?

"Gun control junkes" -- that cracks me up!

I give up. We all do what we need to do, some of us just choose a different course of action is all.

Got ya. Agree!

I agree with you Birdsfan. You also have to factor in the ability to accurately fire a weapon when under intense stress. That's not a requirement for attaining a CCW. I'm sure some who have them have been in the situation before, either as a soldier or policeman, but most haven't. You can be the most accurate shooter in the world but once bullets start flying I sincerely question your ability to fire accurately.

Listen, it would be great if someone popped up behind this guy and let him have it before he finished his senseless killings. But to say having more guns around the situation would have alleviated it is unreasonable as it could have just as easily escalated the situation or compounded the damage.

Don't agree, anyone with a CC could have easily popped this guy.

What proof do you have of that? I thought I explained this to you yesterday, do I need to explain it again?

BTW, you act as if this little coward was some trained killer. He was just a little wimp loser, not some commando.

That's probably the reason why he flipped.

Obviously this heinous act, by this coward is disgusting and we all have various opinions but enough of the personal comments at each other.

Certainly couldn't have as well. You can't ignore the intense stress of the situation. I can hit a target with a gun all day but I've never had to with it firing back and with innocents strewn about around it.

Doesn't matter. He's nuts...that's worth a couple of touchdowns right there.
:fire:Hope he is enjoying his new accommodations:fire:

:thumb: I 100% agree.

I understand what you're implying and it's a valid point, but I think you might be surprised at how well you might perform in a situation like this.

Point is he isn't trained and likely less experienced when up against someone with a CC.
