Mom55 Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Will someone tell me the true purpose of a booster club? What's the difference between a booster club and a mom's club?
HHSDad Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 I'm guessing that the only difference is that the Moms' Club is a booster club made up only of moms.
Pirate Pride Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 I am not certain but I will take a stab. I think the purpose of a booster club is to gather a group of fans of the program who have some influence, for the purpose of raising money for the program.
Henry521 Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 I would venture to say that the Booster Club would raise funds for large projects, such as lighting, score boards, unis, press box, and things for all sports, etc. The mom's club seems like it would raise money on a smaller level for things such as spirit wear, or fun things for the team that maybe they would need extra money for.
calm like a bomb Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 ^Exactly. I can't answer as to what a Mom's Club is or does, but the booster club at Breathitt Co. is a group of people (some parents, some not) that organize and run events and promotions to raise money and support for the sports teams. I know that our boosters have a golf scramble every year, multiple cookouts, split-the-pots, raffles, etc. One of Breathitt's biggest boosters is a guy that isn't from Breathitt Co. and has no sons. He just loves football and to support the Bobcats.
STRIKE3 Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Booster Clubs, help supplement and offset costs, incurred by the Athletic programs. Most have ByLaws or regulations, they adhere to and go by. Often schools systems, also have guidelines and procedures, relating to Booster Clubs. If organized and managed properly, they are a tremendous help to many programs.
Ram Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 In my experience, booster clubs used to be "stage hands", if you will, they helped prepare things around the program, pack equipment, get the field ready, and the like. But, after Title IX came in to the equation, and the school systems had to divide money up from one sport among all the other sports, the booster club became a money making organization. A touchdown club can make money just for football, because they are not associated with the school system, per say. And a basketball boosters club can make money for just basketball. Where if the school system does fundraising for football they would have to share it with all the athletic programs in the school system. A mom's club, I have not heard of.

A typical Mom's club does the football banquet at the end of the season. Makes scrapbooks for their sons and other mementos.

72birdman Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Yea, Mom's clubs and boosters are two pretty different organizations. Yeh...The mom's get together to decide what they are going to make the dads do.
Henry521 Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Yeh...The mom's get together to decide what they are going to make the dads do. :irked: Just soo you know, on Thursday nights, while the Dad's are sitting around eating bon bons and sharing a beverage while watching game films in someones warm cozy living room, the moms are out in the cold running from house to house putting up inspirational messages and treats for the players. Go Birds. That's why when those players make it to the big time, you always see them on TV saying "Thanks MOM"

The sarge Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 When not properly organized and managed they are a disaster. :argue:
