justme2018 Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 My buddies and I are planning a trip to Vegas next year. Any ideas on where to look for package deals, The best time to go, and where is the best places to stay. ....? We are looking for a thursday thru Sunday type deal. Any advice?
Big Slick Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 If you or one of buddies plays at some at Caesar's Indiana, you can use same rewards card for places owned by Harrah's in Vegas and maybe get a room that way. Remember flights at odd times are usually cheaper, so be ready to fly late, especially coming back.
JOHNDUNHOFT Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 I always like to stay down in old vegas which is cheap and alot of fun. JD
jahearme Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 I always like to stay down in old vegas which is cheap and alot of fun. JD I've been twice and stayed on the Strip both times. Next time I go I want to stay in old Vegas. Everything is right there and I seem to have better luck down there too! The first time I went I stayed at Paris. Have some connections there and stayed in the Presidential Suite! Walked in and went  Second time I went we stayed at Bally's. Not as nice as Paris, but like I've always said, "In Vegas, all you need is a place to put your head down for a couple of hours each night!" Have fun!!!
justme2018 Posted November 30, 2007 Author Posted November 30, 2007 We are planning on leaving late Thursday night and coming back late Sunday or early Monday. What are the pros and cons of staying on the strip vs old vegas?
leo42171 Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 We are planning on leaving late Thursday night and coming back late Sunday or early Monday. What are the pros and cons of staying on the strip vs old vegas? If you stay in old Vegas stay at the Golden Nugget, it is the cleanest. I used to believe that "all you need is a place to crash for a couple hours" line until I stayed at The Palace in old Vegas. The Palace is where they fillmed "Back to The Future II (Biff's Tower). That place is a major DUMP and it is one of the better ones in old Vegas. I like to stay on the strip, a lot more action. Every time I go to Vegas I spend 1 day downtown, but that's all the time need! But old Vegas is very cheap (but very dirty).
justme2018 Posted November 30, 2007 Author Posted November 30, 2007 When is the best time of the year to go?
leo42171 Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 When is the best time of the year to go? RIGHT NOW! After Thanksgiving and before New Years is the best time to go. Cheaper hotel rates and smaller crowds but still enough "action".
cshs81 Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 A cab driver in Vegas told me years ago that the place I was staying, the Rio, was the best because it was the only hotel whose cocktail waitresses were not unionized. Therefore, in his way of thinking, they could easily fire any such person who was aging or no longer built the way they wanted them to unlike the other hotels in Vegas. Interesting perspective.

I never knew that, but I have always said that the Rio had very "nice" waitresses!:fire:

Is it best to take the vacation deals or book hotels/airfare separate?
98NCCalum Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Enjoy yourself and don't over spend.BULL!!!!! Overspend and enjoy yourself. If you go to Vegas not to spend money, you won't have fun.
NobizLikeShowbiz Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 I have been twice and both times stayed at New York, New York. Enjoyed both times I stayed at NY,NY. Actually going again December 19th, we are staying at the Rio this time. A friend has 2free suites there. As far as where to stay, I would recommend staying on the strip. If your looking for a place on the strip that is nice and not to expensive I would say try The Flamingo out. They should have good deals compared to the other major hotels. Flamingo is right across from Bellagio, next to Paris and close to Ceasars. Its in the "prime" location on the strip if you ask me. Also its right next to O'Sheas, which has happy hour 24 hours a day.:thumb: I dont know if you can go on weekdays but weekdays are much cheaper than if your out there on a weekend. Its good to go to Vegas anytime really. I have been in July and March and will be going in December and its always "hoppin" theres really no DOWN time. Oh, and make sure your ride "The Deuce" its 5$ a day and its a double decker bus that goes up and down the strip, there are a few of them. Much cheaper than a taxi and very convenient!
