gametime
First off, Cordero was given a jersey with No. 48, and Wayne said that's how many saves he's going to get this year. Cordero said he didn't feel any pressure by that number -- or the reported $46 million -- and will use that as a goal for 2008. # From the KrivDawg: "The market was there for him to command this type of dollars and years. Either you’re in or you’re out and we’re in." "The goal was to make the bullpen better, and the pitching better. We’re still looking to make the pitching staff better. We’ve added a tremendous piece to the puzzle with Francisco holding down the ninth inning." "The guys that come in the seventh and eighth inning are just as important. David Weathers recognizes that. He’s a team player, he knows the Cincinnati Reds got better. I’ve talked to David, he’s thrilled with this signing." "When we were in the ballpark with the dollars and the years, we got aggressive. We said, ‘we’re this close, let’s go for it. This is a key guy, we’re going to go get him.’" "We lost a lot of games last year that we had leads and were supposed to win and we didn’t. That’s demoralizing on a club. There’s nothing worse than losing games when you have a big lead. The Cincinnati Reds got a lot better bringing Francisco Cordero in here." http://frontier.cincinnati.com/blogs/spring/2007/11/cordova-cordero-press-conference.asp#links
98NCCalum
Francisco seemed very impressed with the active role Baker took in the discussions, and that helped lead him here. Remind me again who was the first on the Dusty bandwagon?

The Scribe
Dusty did the same thing in his prior (no pun intended) two stops. Get the bullpen in order with FA signings. Some panned out and some just panned. If Cordero gets 48 saves, he may be the first reliever in a while to save 75% of his team's wins in a season. The Scribe
Cubs fans nervous? Check... Not this one. The Brewers lost Jenkins and Cordero and picked up Jason Kendall. No one else in the division has done much of anything. Believe me, I'm not nervous about the Reds right now.
gametime
Believe me, I'm not nervous about the Reds right now. Good news in my book. The arrogance of a team fighting off a 100 year drought is overlooking ANYONE? Fantastic...

The Scribe
Seriously, the Rangers are said to be interested in either Dunn or Hamilton but I'm not sure what they could offer in return since they too are pitching starved. If the Padres can't resign Cameron and can't sign Andrew Jones, they may go after Hamilton. They do have a little pitching to offer.
