November 27, 200718 yr  That would leave an empty bowl spot that is reserved for the SEC. I interperet it to mean that a six win team can go, but only after all 7 win teams are in. So as of now, if there is a 7 win team without a contractual bowl bid, that team would get the Independence Bowl before Bama or SC. If there are no available 7 win teams, then the Independence has their choice of Bama or SC. At least that is the way I read it. If there is a 7 win team out there, that La Lafayette loss sure is costly.
November 28, 200718 yr John Clay wrote in the Lexington Herald-Leader today that Kentucky COULD still be selected for the Chick-Fil-A or Cotton Bowl (although he concedes the Music City is the best bet). What scenario would put UK in the Chick-Fil-A or Cotton Bowl?????? It seems like a long shot but I'm sure he wouldn't have written it if it wasn't a (remote) possibility. Anybody have insight into this? http://www.kentucky.com/285/story/241022.html

Anybody have insight into this? http://www.kentucky.com/285/story/241022.html The Cotton or Chic-Fil-A would just have to select the Cats over Arkansas or Auburn. The Cotton has 1st choice from the west. They can choose from the East if they want to, but only after the Outback chooses. There is something in the SEC bowl agreements that allows each bowl to choose their team. But they have to take the team with the best record or a team within 1 game of the best record. Auburn and Arkansas are both 8-4, UK is 7-5. In theory the Cotton could choose UK, but why would they. Arkansas and Auburn would both fill the place and it would create bad blood between the the Cotton and SEC west teams. The Chic-Fil-A is the same. But they would be more likely to take UK. It is a very real possibility that if the Cotton takes Auburn, the Chic-Fil-A might take UK. Arkansas is a long way, I think there would be concern about Arkansas fans filling the place, they know UK fans will fill it. So they could choose the Cats. The X-factor is McFadden. While Auburn is probably the better team and will be the better game, McFadden is a marquee player. I'm betting the Cotton chooses Arkansas so they can bill it as Heisman hopeful. If the Cotton chooses Auburn, IMO the Cats have a very good chance at getting the Chic-Fil-A.

Wow...great insights...thanks a bunch...I live in Atlanta and would love to see the Cats at the Georgia Dome!!:ylsuper:
November 28, 200718 yr Here is what the "experts" at ESPN are predicting. One says UK in the Independence Bowl and the other says the Liberty Bowl. They actually have Alabama moving all the way up to the Music City Bowl. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/news/story?page=bowlprojections13
November 28, 200718 yr ^I thought I read somewhere that the bowls aren't allowed to take any 6-6 teams over a 7-5 team. If that's the case there is no way Bama gets the Music City over UK. From everything I've read they would love to get UK back to Nashville.
November 28, 200718 yr I will use the SEC as an example. A 6-6 team can be chosen over a 7-5, in the SEC. This can be done as long as the 7-5 team fills one of the slotted tie in games. Usually the pecking order is MCB, LB, and then Ind. Bowl. The Music City can take Bama at 6-6 as long as UK and MSU both with 7 wins gets a tie-in game. Now both Bama and SC can't because that would mean a UK or MSU would stay home. That wont work. But one can be as long as the 7-5 team is in a tie-in game. From what I have heard, is that the Liberty would love Bama to celebrate a 25th Anniversary of Bear Bryant....playing in Liberty Bowl or something like that. MSU wants Memphis based on proximity. Tonight, I heard that UK would have a real good shot at the Peach Bowl if TN beats LSU. Never got the reason as to how.
November 28, 200718 yr Tonight, I heard that UK would have a real good shot at the Peach Bowl if TN beats LSU. Never got the reason as to how. I heard the same thing. The assumption is: LSU to Cotton Auburn to Outback because they are so close Cats to Chic-Fil-A, again because of proximity. Arkansas drops to one of the other 3 bowls. Hold the Phone - Outback could choose UK in this scenario:creepy:

November 28, 200718 yr I think the Cats should go ahead of Arkansas simply because we beat Arkansas. But wouldnt that mean Miss St would go in front of us?
November 28, 200718 yr But wouldnt that mean Miss St would go in front of us? In theory yes, but then you have to factor in that UK's fans = big bucks.
November 28, 200718 yr Cats and Mississippi State were 3-5 in the SEC. Bama was 4-4. Bama also lost to Nobody State.
November 28, 200718 yr We beat the vols and it wasn't close. We lost to Mississippi State at their place. Again 4-4 in the SEC...Cats 3-5.
November 28, 200718 yr We beat the vols and it wasn't close. We lost to Mississippi State at their place. Again 4-4 in the SEC...Cats 3-5. Beat UL Monroe and you would be sitting in a pretty good position. With that loss, you're just lucky to get in a bowl game this season at 6-6.
