They might be right.

My thinking on this though is, why would the people at the Music City Bowl not ask UK to come?? They know UK fans will come and spend their $$ there.

I think the Music City has dibs over the Liberty. I just can't see them passing on the Cats. They know we'll fill the place.

The Capital One (2nd), will then make its pick following the BCS selections. The bowl must select the team with the next best overall record or a team that is within one win of the team with the next best overall record.

 

The Outback, Chick-fil-A and AT&T Cotton Bowls will work with the conference office to determine picks 3-5. The Cotton Bowl has the first preference of teams from the Western Division and the Outback Bowl has first preference of teams from the Eastern Division. The Cotton or Outback Bowl can select teams outside of its divisional preference, but must not select them before the opposite bowl selects from its divisional preference. The Chick-fil-A Bowl has the selection of preference following the Cotton and Outback Bowls.

 

In selections 6-7, the AutoZone Liberty and Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowls will make their selections, not in any specific order, but in consultation with the SEC Office. The Bowls will rank available qualified teams in order of preference. If there are no similarities in the order of selection, the bowls will be granted its selection. If the bowls rank the same teams in preference, the team involved in the process would get its preference of which bowl to participate.

 

The Independence Bowl will receive the eighth selection of available SEC teams.

 

I'm thinking both Bowls would choose the Cats, and the Cats would choose the Music City. Here's my guess at how it shakes out.

Kentucky is 5th in the SEC East, I do not know where Bama is in the West could someone clarify that for me? Also, if this lineup happens who does everyone play?:confused:

All teams with 7 wins go before teams with 6 wins. Based on location of the bowl and fan support I would say Bama goes and SC stays home. Liberty can choose between the two with no restrictions.

So in this senario; it would be better for the team to play a weaker non conference schedule, but it would hurt in the BCS, but the team that had a better confernce record will be penalized! :confused:

The 7 win rule is an NCAA rule that was put in with the expansion to the 12 game season. The Bowls have always had a certain amount of flexibility when it comes to choice. One of the biggest reason being that they want butts in seats. Bama is a lot closer to Memphis than SC and would probably fill the place.

 

But yes, a cupcake probably gets SC in.

OK Mr.F I did my homework. Boy they sure do make this complicated. This is from the NCAA website. As alway's it reads like stereo instuctions. But it looks to me that Bama and SC are both out if there is an available 7 win team. See if it translates the same to you.

 

Deserving Winning Team

 

"A deserving winning team is defined as one that wins a minimum of six games against Division I Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) competition and has a record that includes more wins than losses. [Exception: Each year, a FBS institution may count a victory against a Division I Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) opponent that has averaged 90 percent of the permissible maximum number of grants-in-aid per year in FCS over a rolling two-year period.]

 

Per NCAA Bylaw 30.9.2.1 an institution with a record of six wins and six losses may be selected for participation in a bowl game if 1) the institution or its conference has a primary contractual affiliation, which existed prior to the first contest of the applicable season, with the sponsoring bowl organization. In the case of a conference contractual affiliation, all conference teams with winning records must be placed in one of the contracted bowl games before any institution with a record of six wins and six losses may be placed in a contracted bowl game; and 2) all contratual affiliations have been fulfilled and all institutions with winning records have received bowl invitations (either through a contractual affiliation or as an at-large selection).

 

In the case of a conference contractual affiliation, all conference teams with winning records must be placed in one of the contracted bowl games before any institution with a record of six wins and six losses may be placed in a contracted bowl game. There shall be no contingency agreements with other sponsoring bowl organizations intended to enable an institution with a record of six wins and six losses to become eligible for those contests."
