I don't have either. All I have is a lot of all star patches and jerseys from youth football, and some all star patches and other awards from high school as well. But no championships like you all..:irked::cry:

Coaching at that level, there's not a championship worth turning a kid away from the game. And there's not a better feeling, including a Super Bowl than seeing a kid that wasn't that good at the beginning of the year, succeed at the end of the year. At least to me there isn't...

 

:thumb: There's no question that the Ft. Thomas league is doing things right, but it benefits from the lower number of kids. The NKYFL needs to change the way things are done IMO, but with the large numbers, it's hard to do. The South Kenton starter team had over 70 players this year. There's no way to give the kids adequate playing time without splitting them into multiple teams.

That's the problem the NKYFL faces that the FTJFL doesn't necessarily face. I'm just saying the NKYFL needs to do something, but I don't know what. Funding has to be the biggest obstacle.

I disagree. I think the NKYFL is great. Maybe someone needs to start another league because the NKYFL is not changing the way they do business.

I think the NKYFL might want to adress the Senior level with so many high schools forming their own middle school/junior high teams. While their still may be sufficent numbers to field a team, some of the organizations have seen their numbers on the lighter side than previously while some have just as many or more than previously. That difference might not make for good competition eventually.

I would say logically Senior level teams may need to be combined across organizations but realistically that probably will never happen.

 

Or maybe some sort of classification based on number of players.

Well if teams have 14 players and other teams have 50 players chances are the games are not going to be competitive. And if that drops to 12 and increases to 60 then it gets even worse.

The Red Devil Jr team had 31 players and we won the the Super Bowl.

But that is not what is important.

What is important is the fact that everyone played in every game and we accomplished both goals. Gaining confidence with playing time in a competitive environment.

We have used this system for over years. It took me years to learn this but it has paid off for all the kids. The playing time was not equal. Our white (2ND) and blue (3rd) team played more than our red (1st) teams.

Our white and blue teams started 4 games this year. 24 of the 31 players scored.

 

Each team and leagues have different systems and ours took time to develop but the results speak for them self.

No doubt the Red Devils were a model for success this year but how would you accomplish the same thing if you had 50 to 60 kids on the team each year?

We could not have the same success. But our system is designed because of the 13 teams of 10-11 years in Campbell County. (4-Nkyfl, 4 CCYFL, 5 FTYFL).

We play with the cards dealt to us and it is modified every year.

2006 with 35 kids, our white and blue team started 6 games.

2005 same system but had 28 of 32 players scored.

If we get 40 players next year this system would struggle to have that kind of success.

Great article! This league has been in existence since 1959 and I think Homer Rice and the late George Ratterman knew what they were doing when they laid the ground rules of how the league was to be run. There have been years when people wanted change, but the league has always come back to the roots on which it was built and has succeeded. You don't change something that isn't broke. The league has had great leadership over the years that have upheld the vision of the founders.

 

Congrats to the coaches, volunteers, and board memebers of the past and present that have made the FTJRL a blueprint for other leagues.
