November 13, 200718 yr My child's science fair will be coming up in the new year and we are starting to think about what projects he should look at in making his decision. He is 5th grade. Any suggestions? We did the hovercraft out of the leaf blower last year. That was cool.

November 13, 200718 yr Author How the taser was made! I think that might be in some violation of school law in today's zero tolerance policy. Hate to garner my own BGP thread because my son was suspended from school for bringing a taser to school for a science fair project.:lol:

November 13, 200718 yr Author I hated Science Fair projects. Must parents did their kids for them! I do agree that many do it for them. Not this father. I love spending that time with my kids. With my daughter we hit golf balls and tested which golf balls traveled further. We built a camera out of an oatmeal box and taught her how to develop her own pictures with the chemicals. Made a dark room out of the bathroom and let her take pictures and develop them herself. Like I said, last year, my son and I built a hovercraft. I did use the saw and drill in cutting but he did the taping and the stapling of the plastic as well as mounting the leaf blower on the board.

DT SoLo were the balls that on average traveled furthest for hers. While golf balls for females are wound different for different compression, she creates a swing speed of 120 MPH for a 13 year old. So she does not swing like the normal female.

So, growing up, I saw just about every science fair project ever created. But the volcano, like you said, was always a favorite. Now there's two ways to do a volcano. You can do it the wimpy way, using baking soda. Or you can do it the cool way -- the way he used to do it. That involved making a volcano out of sand, and filling it with some sort of red (probably, now illegal) chemical that would spit a shower of red sparks when ignited. Okay, the last time I saw it, I was just seven years old; but it seemed pretty cool at the time! Oh...you can also do a volcano the way Pete Brady did it. It involves muddy water, a couple of live wires, and some sort of hydraulic cannon. Just don't test it while your sister has her snooty friends over.

According to the Cobra manufacturer that had a machine at "Play golf America" day at the Golf Ranch in Burlington, she does. He put her on a machine as we tested the new drivers. Tested Cobras, Callaways, TaylorMades and Clevelands. I was shocked. But that is what the machine said. Her average was 116, but she did hit 120 twice out of about 20 swings. They told her she should not use women's clubs as she swings too hard for the clubs made for women. For a 12-year-old girl that weighs 98 pounds, she driving average is about 215 yards.
