November 14, 200718 yr I used to judge regional science fair projects at Morehead in the late '70s. It was always interesting. I was paired with the classic "nice little old lady" math professor who wanted to give everyone a perfect score. When my kids were doing middle school projects; we usually decided on one that they could do themselves; and they were usually simple, stuck to the experimental method, and were often "behavioral" in nature. For example, put 4 or 5 different kinds of birdseed out and measure how much was consumed every day. That kind of thing. Not impressive from a technical standpoint, but always got high marks.
