KHSAA has really messed up the playoffs. We are having too many 2nd rounds in the playoffs. This makes no sense at all. The 1st rounds are 2nd rounds and the 2nd week are all 2nd rounds. I can't see playing everybody twice unless you are the dominate team and that seems to be the case this year. I think we need to go back to the old playoff system and play another district for the playoffs. I know travel time was the reason but that is a poor excuse in many cases.

Travel time is a poor excuse, my son is in sixth grade and is on the JR high academic team, they traveled last week to Paul Dumbar for an academic meet, that is 2 hours away, and there were many teams there from very far away, and he will be traveling to Louisville twice this year which is 4 hours away. The boys basketball team at Raceland will be going to Louisville Central for a regular season basketball game. The Raceland baseball team goes to Florida every year for a tournament.

 

These are just a few examples from Raceland, I could list more, and I am sure that there are many more example from other schools.

:rolleyes:Yeah and sometimes the best teams are in the same region and don't get to go to the state tourney in B-ball.It happens.Travel IS AN ISSUE for some schools.Last year my sons school canceled some JV games because of fuel prices!While no system is perfect I think it makes sense from a financial standpoint to a large # of schools.Just like college polls, you might think your 4 seed is better than some else's 1 seed,but opinions don't mean squat! The so -called#2 team in college polls lost 4 out of 5 weeks this season, all to lower ranked teams.Play ball and let that decide who is best!
