Tates Creek may have double the male enrollment, but Bell Co., had more players on their team.

 

I'm sorry I know this is going to upset the plethora of Bell Co. posters on here but if Bell Co wins 4-A this year, 4-A is terrible. Tates Creek starts 3 freshmen and anywhere from 6-9 sophomores, and 4-5 Jr's.

 

This is the worst TC team ever. Bell Co., barely won and before you go whining about officiating, TC also had their bad share of calls.

Bell Co. congrats on a hard fought physical win, you should be proud about coming to Lexington and beating a larger school. But an honest assessment of someone who has seen a lot of football this year tells me a state title is out of reach.

 

I love hard nosed ball as much as anyone else, but TC had no trouble getting the corner on Bell Co., and I would describe the Creek as the one of the least athletically gifted teams in the state. Yet they still had more team speed.

 

Personally, if Bell Co. wants to beat Catholic the best chanve is with #2 at QB he is better, becasue he gives you guys another option which is a dual threat QB.

 

Before I end this message, I know I've made some people mad, but the 3rd round and beyond of the playoffs are a diferent world than McCreary Central and the like. I hope you guys dominate Lexington Catholic and everyone and bring a title home to the mountains, but after seeing the TC game, there are a lot of things to work on.

I have not seen Bell County play in person, but have seen LexCath. From what I saw of the Knights I was impressed/unimpressed at the same time. I was very impressed with how young and talented LexCath was, they have some tremendous Sophomore talent. I was very unimpressed with their defense, in particular their run defense. Now granted when I saw them play it was fairly early in the season (against Pikeville), but Pikeville moved the ball very effectively on LexCath gaining over 300 yards, the majority of that on the ground as Daniel Harmon ran for almost 200 yards. The biggest issue I saw with LC's defense was gap integrity and keeping containment on the outside. Those are both simple fixes that very well may have changed by now considering the cumulative youth of the team, but if their defense makes those mistakes against Bell County, the Bobcats should be able to run all night on them.

Bright Horizons is on the money about Tates Creek. They are on the verge of being the worst team in Lexington (they beat Bryan Station by 3 points) and are basically a one man show with Ty Sparks.

Their weak schedule is due to district opponents. Tates Creek should have had a good team with a large number of seniors. All the non-district schedule should have been quality opponents with the exception of Leslie? I am not sure what they had coming back.

Losing Kyle Nelson to a concussion was the factor. Yes, Zachary did a good job in replacement, but remember what this scenario really brings. Not only do you lose your QB, but Zachary is the go-to guy as WR. Nelson was on his game in first half. Also Kyle is one of the hardest hitters on the Bobcat defense. I believe that a defensive hit in first-half on the hard turf started the problem....only went down on hit later in game.

 

Also...someone said don't cry about officiating....TC got bad calls too? How many TD's did they have called back with flags thrown AFTER the play was well on its way or over for TD! Bell had TWO!! Officials had to have several "hen-parties" to try and figure out the calls. Spencer Greer's TD run after a near dead-ball punt was superb. I believe they finally called him for a personal foul for pushing the guy so he could pick up the LIVE ball! Someone said that they flagged the bench for coming on to the field....problem was there was no whistle blown...so ball was in play and Greer made a great move that caught everybody off guard. Either way officials let the whole thing play out....since there was not whistle....should have been no call....and a TD. Don't remember the Bell Co. fans ever getting as verbal and upset as they were over that TD being called back!

 

Point is that this game could have easily have been the similar score of Lex Catholic that one "hypothetically" predicts. TC played well for first half. Senior night sometimes brings that out. But, had Nelson played rest of game, I believe that Bell would have gone to air more and Bell would have scored a lot more points. Instead, with Kyle down, Dudley played it close to the vest....and ground out the clock for the win. Remember its the final score....not the margin...that makes the W. Thats why he has over 300 wins!

I don't know how good Whitley County was supposed to be, but they're 2-8. Volunteer, the Tennessee team that Bell played, is 5-5 going into the playoffs.

Bell lost Corbin from their schedule....an annual affair. Corbin is having a great year. My understanding is that a Belfry game was in the works at one time....and a Cincinnatti team of high caliber. Both did not work out with conflicts. Bell scrambled to fill their schedule. District teams were set. Whitley should have had, if you listen to Whitley posters, a much better season. The Tennessee team and Tates Creek were added to have games. Dudley always tries to have tough opponents....that is one reason they are undefeated this season....and ususally have a couple of losses to bigger, stronger teams in non-district play. Hopefully, Bell is ready for the test. They have only trailed at two times in whole season. Opponents have 0 return yardage on punts for season! Bell's kicker has several field goals, one near a state record of 56 yards, and had 55 touchbacks on kickoffs for the regular season. Greer is getting stronger every game. Nelson has really be on with his passes with near perfect games in the last few outings. Bobcats defense has allowed only one TD per game average for season. I believe that this young team is maturing and ready for the playoffs. Let's see how they do against "tougher" competion.

I think you hit the nail on the head. Bell Co. plays a good schedule year in and year out although their location somewhat limits it to a degree plus the fact that Middlesboro and Corbin have decided against playing Bell hurts their strength of schedule.

Will this have an effect on the playoffs? One can never be certain, but it could cause some potential problems. Nelson has improved at QB, Greer is having an exceptional year and the defense seems to be your typical Bell defense, so I would not be surprised to see Bell Co. in Louisville in December.

I dont know where u get your information from but in several games this year against some of Lexington better record teams. Tates lead several of those games at halftime. Now they are clearly down this year, but to say they are one of Lexington's worst teams is highly questionable.

 

With that being said, I sure am glad that the games are played on Friday nights and not thru your postings. I'll stick with my YOUNG BOBCATS! :fight:

In watching this game, the key was the halftime adjustments on defense. Bell had not seen a running back as good as Sparks all season. It would be hard to argue that he is 1 of the top backs in the state hands down. And he ran all over Bell for a half. The 2nd half was a different story. I am willing to bet he had under 50 yards rushing in the 2nd half. Bell did a much better job containing him and only gave up 6 points that half.

 

As for players dressed, I can't believe someone would get on here and say Bell dressed more players than Tates Creek did. That is way off.
