November 1, 200718 yr http://www.cbs.sportsline.com/collegebasketball/story/10443632/1 Report releases details in IU recruiting scandal INDIANAPOLIS -- Indiana basketball coaches attended regular compliance meetings. They logged recruiting phone calls each week. They signed forms monthly attesting they didn't call recruits from home phones and received regular compliance memos and newsletters reminding them of NCAA rules. Yet the university said coaches still made more than 100 calls in violation of NCAA rules or sanctions imposed on the program because of previous impermissible calls. When the calls were discovered, coaches told school officials they were confused about the rules, forgot to record calls, or thought reports were formalities. "Indiana University is troubled by this disregard for university policies and procedures," the school wrote in a report to the NCAA's infractions committee. On Tuesday, the Associated Press obtained the 300-page report, prepared by Indianapolis-based law firm Ice Miller, through a Freedom of Information Act request. The recruiting scandal has already cost the Hoosiers one basketball scholarship for 2008-09, coach Kelvin Sampson forfeited a $500,000 pay raise and assistant coach Rob Senderoff -- who made a majority of the impermissible calls -- resigned Tuesday. The university said he received a severance package worth $46,000.

November 1, 200718 yr So essentially there were more impermissible calls than previously reported by IU. The call now number over 100... Is the number really relevant? Wouldn't 1 be enough?
November 1, 200718 yr Is the number really relevant? Wouldn't 1 be enough? 1 could be a mistake. 100? Not so much.
November 1, 200718 yr You guys do realize that these violations that have you all in a tizzy are on the same secondary level as the MySpace debacle of last year with UK correct?
November 1, 200718 yr This really has you upset doesn't it? Not as much as it will you, when it's all said and done.
November 1, 200718 yr Not as much as it will you, when it's all said and done. If you're inferring that the NCAA is going to come down hard on IU, you are sadly sorely mistaken. The self imposed sanctions are all that will most likely happen.

November 1, 200718 yr Did UK lose a scholarship over the MySpace debacle? Nope, but they are the same level violation. IU gave up the scholarship on their own. The NCAA may not have taken it. We'll never know. Besides the mess of the Mackey situation made that scholarship open anyway. It will be filled next year, no big deal.

Besides the mess of the Mackey situation made that scholarship open anyway. It will be filled next year, no big deal. UK's MySpace was because of idiot fans, IU's was because of an idiot coach. I hardly think they're on the same level.
