Assistant Indiana coach at center of recruit calls case resigns

Featured Replies

As I understand it, whoever replaces Senderoff is still going to suffer the sanctions that his position suffered. What was it again? No calls to recruits and no recruiting off-campus?

Imagine that it doesn't take Sampson long at all to get in trouble at Indiana.

He truly was and still is one of the brightest coaches in college, I just don't understand why he feels the need to constantly bend and break the laws.

Is That the same thiung as "He Cheats??"

I'll bet that there is couple of guys (one at Texas Tech :D) and I have forgotten where Davis went that are laughing themselves to death about now.

He's right, whoever takes his place will have those restrictions as well.

So they will only have 2 assistants and no head coach out on the AAU scene and doing in home visits???

"Whomever replaces Senderoff would face self-imposed recruiting sanctions through next July according to what IU officials announced on October 14. That includes initiated calls to prospects and off campus recruiting and scouting trips."

Mike Davis is at UAB, and don't kid yourself, if he was smart enough to write his name, who knows what he might have done, haha.

Meanwhile Senderoff could join someone else at another school and start recruiting immediately?

• IU reduced the number of calls Sampson could make to seniors and junior recruits. The university said this could cost the IU staff up to 700 calls to seniors, 350 of which could have been made by Sampson. It estimated that the restrictions could cost Sampson up to 885 potential calls to junior recruits.

• IU limited Sampson to four off-campus recruiting days during the fall 2007 period that ended Oct..5, and will allow him no more than 10 until July 31, 2008.

• IU reduced the permissible paid visits by recruits from 12 to six in 2007-08.

Remember when I told you Kelvin Sampson's explanation didn't ring true?

Well, that's because it wasn't true.

That's what we learned for certain Tuesday, when the school released the report it sent to the Committee on Infractions. The 30-page document -- linked here courtesy of the Herald Times -- includes information from prospects and their parents that Sampson and assistant Rob Senderoff participated in some of the same impermissible three-way calls made during the one-year period Sampson was under sanctions by the NCAA, and it directly contradicts Sampson's initial explanation that he wasn't aware he was on three-way calls.

According to the report, "two of the three individuals that Indiana University successfully contacted from the list of known phone numbers used in the three-way recruiting calls, reported that Senderoff was involved in the respective conversations as well as Sampson. The university was careful to clarify with both individuals ... that both coaches participated in the conversation at the same time as opposed to Senderoff speaking only during the first portion of the call and then remaining silent when Sampson was on the phone. The two individuals were specific in their recollections that Senderoff was involved during the whole call and it should be noted that these calls were relatively recent."

So there you have it, folks.

Sampson has not only been caught breaking the rules again, but he's also been caught lying about breaking the rules again, which makes him a double rule-breaker/unrepentant fibber who just so happens to be in charge of a top 10 team, and is there any doubt at this point that that's the only thing saving his job?

Wrong again. Thanks for playing.

I thought you were supposed to be on top of this stuff...

Show me where there were direct sanctions on this assistant. There was a restriction for the whole staff and then for Sampson directly...

Ive read from the beginning of this that Senderoff would not be allowed to go recruit for like a year.

Guess I missed his name in all of this before the new problems...
