Ok I have figured it a little differently than hector and my calculations are...

 

You get one point for actually defeating the opponent because if team A, B, and C are in a tie breaker, Team A has beaten 3 teams, Team B 2 teams, and Team C 0 (other than the win they had against Team A or B), and all of all the opponents that the three teams (A,B,and C) have beaten none of them have came away with wins. That would make Team C still tied with Team A if no points are awarded for a defeat of an opponent, and that wouldn't make sense so that's why a point is awarded for a defeat of an opponent.

 

South Laural

Valley - 7 points with a possibilty of gaining 8

Knox Central - 6 points with a possibilty of 7

North Laural - 1 point with a possibility of 4

Games left:

Middlesboro - if they win south gets 6 points with the possibility of 7 if Middlesboro wins their last game.

East Jessamine - if south wins they'll get 6 points with a possibility of 7

if south wins out then they have 5 defeats over the teams not involved in the tie breaker. You can only count 4 so they would drop the North Laural victory.

South as of right now has 14 points with a possibility of 29

 

Mercer

Russell County - 2 points maybe 4

Greenville, TN - 7 points maybe 9

Boyle County - 3 points maybe 5

Games left:

Rockastle - if mercer wins they'll gain 5 points with the possibility of 6

Mercer as of now has 12 points with a possibility of 24

 

Southwestern

Paul Dunbar - 4 points maybe 6 (one of those games is against Trinity)

Games left:

Boyle county - 3 points maybe 4

GRC - 2 points maybe 3

Southwestern as of now has 4 points with the possibility of 12

 

As of now South Laural leads the tie breaker by two points, Mercer 2nd with 12 and Southwestern 3rd with 4.

 

If I am correct if Mercer gets beat by Rock then their 12 points would stand, however, even if Southwestern wins out and gains all their possible points they will also have 12 and it would result in the two teams head to head battle which Mercer won, and Southwestern is out of the playoff picture, and I believe that this is the case.

That is not how it is figured, CoachJr. You don't get the 1 point for the number of teams you beat, you get 1 point for each win posted by any 4 teams you have beaten. This rewards you for beating a better team. You beat a team who has 7 wins, you get 7 points. You beat a winless team, you no points. It ain't perfect, and sometimes it hurts you if you play a tough schedule, but that is how the points are figured.

 

 

 

So, here we go. You get one point for each win by any 4 teams you have beaten, but you can't count points for any team involved in the 3 way tie. You can count out of state teams and you can count other district teams as long as they aren't involved in the 3 way tie.

 

At this point, with 2 games to go So Laurel has 11 points, Mercer has 9 and Southwestern has 3. As follows...

 

South Laurel has defeated Valley, North Laurel, Mercer Co and Knox Central. They can't count the Mercer Co win, so their points would be

Valley 6 + No Laurel 0 + Knox 5 = 11

 

Mercer Co has defeated Russell Co, Greeneville TN and Boyle Co. and their points are

Russell Co 1 + Greeneville TN 6 + Boyle Co 2 = 9

 

Southwestern has defeated Dunbar and South Laurel. They can't count the So Laurel so their points would be

Dunbar 3

If SW wins out and all of their defeated teams win out they end up with 9 points. Mercer already has 9 and won the head to head. So, unless I'm reading it wrong, with Mercer's head to head win over SW, that puts Mercer and S. Laurel in.

 

The question now is 3 or 4 seed.

 

S. Laurel has 11. They can gain 4 more from their already defeated teams. They play Middlesboro(6 wins, possible 7) and East Jessimine(5 wins, possible 6). So, S. Laurel has the potential for 28 points.

 

Mercer has 9. They can gain 6 more from already defeated opponents. They play Rockcastle (4 win, possible 5). So, Mercer has the potential for 20 points.

Didn't Mercer pick up that game with the Tenn. team just at the last minute? Good thing they did or it sounds like they wouldn't be making the play-offs.

Mecer really had to scramble to get that game. I know Mercer was mad as heck that Somerset cacelled out on what Mercer thought was a set game. Who knows if Mercer would have beat Somerset, but they have 6 wins also. However, it appears Somerset may have done Mercer a favor.

I lived in Knoxville for 4 1/2 years and none of those three teams were ever considered "powers" in that area. Maryville was always the team to beat each year in 4A in the Knoxville area.

 

You better take another look. Morristown West for the past 10 years has been a power. They are the only team to beat Maryville in maybe 4 years. Played in a state championship a few years back. They are down alittle this year, but a great program. East on the other hand is terrible.

Here's how it is guys:

 

Mercer County:

Russell County - 2 wins, potentially 3 wins

Greeneville, TN - 6 wins, potentially 8 wins

Boyle County - 2 wins, potentially 4 wins

Total: 10

 

South Laurel:

Valley - 6 wins, potentially 8 wins

North Laurel - 0 wins, potentially 2 wins

Knox Central - 5 wins, potentially 7 wins

Total: 11

 

Southwestern:

Paul Dunbar - 3 wins, potentially 5 wins

Southwestern is out. They only have a potential of 8 or 9.

 

South Laurel's potential is 28.

Mercer County's potential is 20.

 

IMO, you're going to see it as South Laurel in the 3 slot, Mercer County in the 4.
