I have been an opponent of a playoff system. Let's admit that right off the bat.

 

Looking at the mess of college football this year, this year is a great example of how a playoff system would solve few problems. There might be up to a dozen teams that have been in the top 10 that would have to be excluded from a college playoff this season.

 

This season the top 10 has a revolving door on it.

 

So, I ask those who are proponents, who would you invite to a 8 team playoff system? And more importantly what teams would you end up leaving out.

Invite 12 and do it per the final BCS rankings.

Last year made the BCS look like genius. This year is going to be a disaster for the BCS.

I think they should take the Top 8 teams based on BCS ranking and put them in a playoff system. Then take the rest of the teams that have had good years and put them in the Bowl Games.

 

Based on what I've watched this year:

 

1. LSU - Best team in the Country IMO.

2. Oklahoma - A very close 2nd to LSU

3 Ohio State - A very close 3rd.

4. USC - This might be high but they are a solid team

5. Texas

6. Florida

7. South Carolina

8. Kentucky

 

Also V-Tech, Oregon, Rutgers, WVU can squeeze in there.

I will be one of the first to repspond. I basically agree with you only I am in favor of a "plus one" game/concept. I say put the #1 vs. #4 and #2 vs. #3 in BCS bowl games and add one more for the winners to play in a NC game a week or so later.

 

I am not that much in favor of a 6, 8 or 12 team playoff. Imo the entire season is a playoff the way it is now and a playoff system may take away fom the regular season. I don't know and this is jmo.

:thumb: That is apretty good list BBF, I can't argue any of those. I also agree that USC may be a little high and would maybe add Auburn in as a long shot/darkhorse - they are coming on strong.

Actually I'm not a big fan of the SEC and only watch it because the Big 12 is not shown on TV much in this area and I really don't like the Big 10 so I watch the SEC by default. Does that answer your question? It's just hard for me to dispute that the SEC is the best conference.

Who said I was coming around. I just was starting the discussion.

 

As oldrambler said, I like the regular season meaning something and it is the playoff system. Not like in college basketball in which I could miss and not watch the entire regular season, wait for March Madness and not miss a thing.

 

Now, this UK/Fla game has true meaning. One will be in the BCS hunt, the other with 2 losses, probably won't. The UK/Fla regular season games in bball will not mean as much.

 

I think HHSDad is right and wrong. He is right that it could mean disaster for the BCS. BUT it would also be disaster on a playoff system too. The 5-15 teams could end up being interchangeable and an 8-team playoff would leave out a bunch of teams that have either a) spent some time in the top 5; b) spent a lot of time in the top 10.

I’m amazed at that someone can think the current system is the best way to determine the championship game…

 

Too hard to pick 6-12 teams for a playoff??? Got to be easier than picking 2 for the championship game, seems elementary…

I'm with you...I think a plus one gives us a champion that almost everyone will be satisfied with and it doesn't take anything away from the greatest regular season in sports. An 8, 10, 12, or 16 team playoff, IMO, will take away from the regular season to some degree...there won't be that do or die feel to every big game because teams will know that a loss won't kill them, and that they may be able to get in with 2 losses. Put a plus one in place and everything is fixed from my view.
