Look, we all know politics are ugly. However, its disappointing when its one of "your own" and it involves such an ugly story about going after a family.

So a newspaper's editorial on an event somehow makes the event(lie) irrelevant?

 

You're not bothered by the fact that the Senator and his staff set out to nail a family simply because they were in an ad that the Senator's party was against?

 

Are we that spiteful as a society?

Rather than going after the kid and his family (an ad hominem fallacy), why not simply say, "this bill is an unaffordable expansion of entitlement spending"?

Actually the family allowed themselves to be inserted into the politics of the whole mess by agreeing to allow their son to do the weekly Democratic radio address.

The old "they made themselves part of the debate" argument, eh? That seems to be a typical excuse for justifying very personal attacks on people who probably believe they are speaking up for something important. Great message to send, by the way--stand up for something you think is important and get personally smeared by the opposition because they lack the faculties to make a substantive argument.

What's subject to interpretation here? McConnell's own communications director admitted that they provided reporters with erroneous information regarding the family's background before they established that "they were legit" (his words). He also stated out that he had told this to McConnell the day before Mitch denied his office was involved to a WHAS reporter.
