Now they want to run editorials where people write in, so be it. But they are supposed to be a non-bias reporting business. When they give their opinion, they become bias.

Look, we all know politics are ugly. However, its disappointing when its one of "your own" and it involves such an ugly story about going after a family.

Not sure what to make of CJ story here, because over in the P & P thread on the St. X/Indiana story, the CJ has been pointed out to be an unreliable paper.

 

So, if they are unreliable in that thread, I guess they must be unreliable in this thread, too.

The old "they made themselves part of the debate" argument, eh? That seems to be a typical excuse for justifying very personal attacks on people who probably believe they are speaking up for something important. Great message to send, by the way--stand up for something you think is important and get personally smeared by the opposition because they lack the faculties to make a substantive argument.

 

Anybody who thinks this is an acceptable way to conduct political dialogue deserves the quality of government we have.

But when the editorial comes from the Newspaper, I think they have stepped over from being a reporter of the news to trying to make judgement on that same news. I don't believe that is their role.

They should be unbiased in their reporting of news, but I find editorials and opinions to be quite healthy. It brings another perspective to the table. I rarely agree with an editorial, especially out of the Herald-Leader or Courier-Journal, but it provides a side of an argument I may have not seen before. At the very least, it provokes thought. Now, they shouldn't be making things up or distorting the truth, but that goes without saying, and I don't believe it to be the case here.

So this is their fault? Because they chose to speak up about an issue? It's the family's fault distortions were spread in the media by overzealous bloggers and McConnell's staff? The fault does not belong with McConnell's staff?

 

This country has no decency left if we consider it "ok" to choose personal attack over a legitimate discussion of the underlying ideas.

To be absolutely accruate, I did not say I couldn't believe what was reported in the C-J, but I certainly alluded to the fact that I do not believe "everything" reported in the C-J... specifically in regard to their coverage of political or social issues. These folks (the editors) are professional spinmeisters, as am I. It takes one to know one I guess. To deny the left leanings of the C-J is absurd. The C-J reports enough facts to inject their stories with plausibility, but then leave out enough other facts to achieve their bias. I do not trust them in their political reporting and editorials.

 

If by your definition that makes them liars, so be it. If you work for the C-J I apologize if I stepped on your toes.

Actually the family allowed themselves to be inserted into the politics of the whole mess by agreeing to allow their son to do the weekly Democratic radio address.

 

Come on, AT. That's nothing but a cliche from someone trying to defend their party.

 

They went after a family who simply said "we believe in it because...." Terrible.

 

They then lied to make the family out to be the Rockefellers.

FB, I trust that you are aware of what actually happened and that the CJ is irrelevant to this story. Correct? If so, give us your thoughts on the issue at hand and not the messenger.

Do yourself a favor and google "Mitch McConnell" under "news" and you can then pick out what paper makes you feel comfortable. The story doesn't change.

What was said about them that was a lie?

 

They do live in a 100+ thousand dollar home and they do send their children to private schools (I guess government health insurance is OK but government schools aren't). Where is the lie.

 

In finest (from both sides) political fashion some facts were left out but I don't see where any outright lies were told about them.

 

And please before anyone says it, yes I'm using the "they all do it defense". It's funny but neither side seems to have a problem with it when their side is doing it, but they sure expect the other side to take the high road and stop the politics as usual when it's their ox being gored.

Dirty politics from McConnell really shouldn't surprise anyone.
