Best Freshmen in the 10th Region

Featured Replies

I could be mistaken but I don't think Brossarts frosh class will get a lot of JV minutes. Brossart had a very good freshmen class last year and I see those kids getting a lot of the JV minutes.

Most of the talk has centered around GRC & Mason but Campbell Co has a solid freshmen class. Scott HS had a freshmen guard transfer in who will help on the freshmen level. I have also heard that Scott has a frosh PG who will see some varsity minutes this year.

Thaniks for the info.......always glad to hear from other schools in the region.

Looks like the only Freshman that will be starting for the varsity will be Robby Stenzel of GRC. As the season goes on we may be seeing more Freshman contributing from several schools.

Thanks Papa for the info. I know what you mean by coaches take on letting players play early. When Coach Strong was our coach you did not play varsity till you were a Junior. Wes Burtner was the exception...he played his Sophomore year. Coach Humphry on the other hand feels if they can contribute at a early age he will give them the opportunity. Preston Knowles started from his Freshman year on. Looks like Robby Stenzel will have starting experience from his 8th grade year on.

Does Mason Co only have one Middle School? We have two so we are combining that talent and both schools has outstand players.

I know I have been told we have a outstanding Freshman class this year. How many will play Freshman ball / JV or who can come in and contribute at varsity is still to be seen. I do know that we will need help and back up at the post position. I could see some of them moved up to get experience for the upcoming years. Will be interesting in the 10th in the next few years.

Only one middle school in mason County. Probably a little less than 700 kids in the three grades. High school has somewhere around 800; it's the "smallest of the large schools in the region"; enrollment just a little less than Pendleton County. Graduating class is around 185 or so.

Amazing at the talent and the level Mason has maintained to compete on the state level with just 800 students.:ylsuper:

Any Myricks in the near furture...can remember when there was one or two on the team for years and years....miss them.

Mason County can count their ongoing success to 2 things(Consolidation with Maysville and people moving into the area(Settys,Menke's, Henry's, Cox's and many, many more)

King twins are only 15...just like 99% of the rest of the Freshman basketball players right now. They won't be 16 until April.

Most students do not turn 16 until their sophomore year.

I know who the frosh PG is that you are talking about. But who is the freshman guard transfer in, and where did he come from?

I didnt turn 16 til the summer of my junior year. 16 is nowhere close to average. The stats are backwards they are not in the 99% of freshman who are 14!!!!!!!!!

Kellen Smith of Scott will be pretty good. He is the younger brother of Ryne, who graduated this year.

I said "Basketball players" not freshman class. Setty is 15 already, Pawsat is almost 15, Carver is 15 already (just to name a few) ...the sophomore and junior class are the same way. I saw one of the sophomores driving yesterday...several of them are already 16...and most of the Junoirs are already 17..."who play basketball" (Downing, Stahl, Thompson, Middleton) I realize that SOME players are young but most of them are "hold backs" and most of the Freshmen are already, or soon to be 15! Its not an argument, its a fact.

Nick Farris transferred in from Twenhofel or Summit View. Solid player who should help Scott at freshman level and be a good addition to the program.

I have seen Tregg play and he is an average player, that is unsure in what position he should be palying. He likes to shoot 3's but should really be down low rebounding.

How can you say that?? Honestly, that is by far the worst description of Treg Setty's game that I have ever heard. I have seen him play plenty, and when I have he impresses me. He is about 6'5" and can shoot the lights out. So, just because he is tall doesn't mean he should be in the post rebounding. He isn't even close to being a post player. He is a scorer and he is probably a small forward.

Every name you mentioned has been in the system 6+ years. With the exception of Richie. I mean people need jobs and players need a place to play so if we could please just stop the name dropping and pretty much the HARRASMENT of those individuals who chose to come to mason county it would be much appreciated. Bottom line its a great system with a tradition of winning who wouldnt want to attend a school that has been to state multiple times in the past 7 years and also a small school system that has set the bar in this area for academic preformance. not saying the school system is perfect which its not, but it has much to offer and thats what the parents are looking for.:thumb:
