October 12, 200718 yr I was being generous. It may not be a behavior disorder so to speak but it definitely causes behavior disorder in a lot of cases.

October 12, 200718 yr I don't see it as a disability in any way, shape or form and am offended that it would be lumped with individuals who were born with true disabilities and struggle everyday with life. That is becoming the most overused word in our language. You can disagree, you can think I'm an idiot, you can be exasperated, but how can you be offended by my opinion of anything?

(Actually it is my parent's who let me overeat as a child and be overweight since the age of 3 but that is another Oprah show.) You choose to overeat and get insufficient exercise. I doubt you chose to be overweight. It's a byproduct, a symptom, a result.

I am offended by the notion that a person who chooses a destructive lifestyle is seen by a society as unfortunate as a person born without the ability to walk or see or hear or speak. Those are disabilities. And the even sadder part is that thousands of people with TRUE disabilities overcome them and have successful, happy lives. While thousands who have problems because of THEIR CHOICES lean on those problems as the reasons for their failures. And our society enables that mindset because we want to be sensitive.
October 12, 200718 yr That reminds me of a Southpark episode from a few years ago. Randy Marsh was drinking too much. He went to the Mary statue to get healed (which was miraculous because it was bleeding), and cut in front of people because "I HAVE A DISEASE." The statue cured him. When he found out it was fake, it took his son Stan to convince him he had the power to ease off drinking himself; he didn't have to quit, just don't drink so much. Fantastic episode!
October 12, 200718 yr :thumb: I believe it is a disease, but it's a disease with an easy cure. :lol: Maybe it isn't so easy for alcoholics, but I just can't understand how it is so hard to STOP drinking yourself to death. An easy cure? Sure, just stop drinking. Ever had an addiction?
