Interesting 30 posts and no comment on Odell using it to try and get back on the football field. Good comment on BGP that sometimes issues are more important than sports.

An easy cure? Sure, just stop drinking. Ever had an addiction?
I was addicted to drugs from the summer of my 6th grade year to two weeks before my SR. year ended.

I QUIT COLD TURKEY

THOSE WHO DON'T QUIT DON'T WANT TO.

Look, I'm not arguing on the side of alcoholism. I've seen good lives ruined by it. Highly productive people who could not resist the urge to binge and lose everything they have. I'll not argue that it is self inflicted and in most cases can be controlled, and I'll not suggest that pity should be involved, but in my opionion anything that inhibits normal functions is to one degree or another, a handicap.

Congratulations, but is anyone arguing that point?

So should a chosen handicap that you inflict on yourself be in the same category as a handicap you are born with or obtain as a result of a accident or disease?

Nope, I just wanted to add my 3 cents.

No, I never said it should. Will you not agree that it is, nonetheless, a handicap?

Will you not agree that it is, nonetheless, a handicap?
Definitely not. We cannot slap a label on every difficulty we have in life and expect someone else to bail us out of it, or give us something because of it.

Where have I said anything about being bailed out? Or pitied? Or whatever?

I'm simply saying it impairs function.

I'm simply saying it impairs function.
And therefore...

What?

Handicap to what? Being able to perform a job? No, it doesn't. Being able to drive a normal car? No, it doesn't. Being able to get the item off the top shelf of a cabinet? No, it doesn't. Being able to go to the movies and watch a movie? No, it doesn't. Being able to see a sunset? No, it doesn't.

In fact, I am not sure what activity that it handicaps them being able to perform?

None of the above if he can control it. All of the above if he cannot. Which brings us back to it being self inflicted and we start all over again. I think I'm pretty much done.
