October 11, 200719 yr I can't help but like the man. My brother in law heard him speak years ago at a coaches conference / seminar and said that he was one of the better speakers that he had heard. (remember, that was years ago). Holtz ma be getting too old now and he messes up some of the things he says but the man has definately forgotten more football than most if not all of us on this board will ever know and he definately is more knowledgable than M. May and R. Davis on that show. I have heard him speak twice and he is one of the best big time coaches that you would want to hear. However, I sure liked him a lot better while he was coaching than I do with him being an analyst. Although I dont think its intentional, he sure has an offensive tone as a commentator.
October 11, 200719 yr Why do we have to "hate" someone. Why can't we just enjoy and listen to what they have to say and bring to the table. Granted, some are easier to listen to than others but, Holtz and May are good. They have the experience to get up there and say the things they do... Both have been down these roads. With respect to the "announcers", now a days, I think they are so careful to be P.C that they are inhibited to say what they really feel. For instance, Bill Curry would give praise to a team which goes for it on 4th and 1, if it makes a first down. Bill would never go for it on 4 and 1 if he was coaching.... Its all about good PR and telling the audience what they want to here about there teams..... Dont lose any sleep my friends, its just football and its great.....
October 11, 200719 yr Throw out Mark May and Lou Holtz. Ill take Lee Corso and Kirk Herbstreit. I like Reese Davis and Chris Fowler as well.
October 12, 200719 yr I like Lou's enthusiam and the fun he has doing what he does. His speeches are corny, but they are very entertaining. I get a kick out of him. I would much rather my College recap/pregame/halftime shows be insightful and be funny and entertaining. I think Holtz can be very insightful. I also enjoy Mark May. I do have to admit that he has not been as good since ESPN canned Trev Alberts. Trev always made him 45 times smarter than he really was!
October 12, 200719 yr Mike Gottfried has to be included in there somewhere. I can't understand him half the time. He sounds like he has been out at the tailgate parties since 10 am before an evening broadcast. I agree , imo Gottfried is by far the worst. No one else even close. As for him sounding like he has been tailgating all day, maybe that is why he is living out his name.............Got - Fried. :sssh:
