October 4, 200719 yr That is too bad. Governor Fletcher has been really good for Northern Kentucky. Previous governors have seemed to ignore the region...
October 4, 200719 yr Fletcher has been good for all of Kentucky but he made too many political blunders early in his term to have much of a shot at a second term. There likely will be a return to the corruption of the past with no criticism from whichever Democrat wins the Attorney General race. Thank God for states like Louisiana, West Virginia, and New Jersey for keeping Kentucky from being the most corrupt state in the country.

That would be suggesting Fletcher's term itself has been corruption-free, when all he's done is more of the same good-ole-boy crap.
October 4, 200719 yr "Return"??? That would be suggesting Fletcher's term itself has been corruption-free, when all he's done is more of the same good-ole-boy crap.I never suggested Fletcher's term has been "corruption-free, " just that the corruption of past administrations was pretty much accepted by Democrats, including the state Attorneys General as the norm. The bar was set higher for Fletcher, which I have no problem with - I just wish voters and the state's major media outlets would apply the same standards to all Kentucky elected officials regardless of political affiliation. I am not holding my breath until that happens.

The sad fact is people in the merit system, without following the law, were taking down. Did these merit employees deserve it? Maybe, maybe not. But, no one likes or accepts a bully and that was the Fletcher administration downfall. The gov is a nice guy. His aides, they are idots that can be spelled in all caps. Sending emails to detail how and who is next for placement and elimination.:lol:

Maybe he was just nice to you because he was trolling for donations?
October 5, 200719 yr My experiences with personal encounters with the guy aren't quite so pleasant. Maybe he was just nice to you because he was trolling for donations? Wonder why? Most politicians will be pleasant to everyone as they all want something from us, be it votes or support of some type.

How odd.
October 6, 200719 yr Finally, I'm going to get a casino close to home! I'm all for em as long as those "Vegas style" showgirl productions come with them.
October 6, 200719 yr I think Gov Fletcher made a big mistake by thinking that his 'no casinos' platform would resonate with the voters. I mean, we have the lottery in every gas station, horse racing is a Kentucky mainstay, and alot of our residents regularly visit the casinos in Indiana, Vegas, Atlantic City, etc. I think trying to make this a 'wedge' issue seperating him from his opponent was politically stupid...
October 6, 200719 yr Wonder why? Most politicians will be pleasant to everyone as they all want something from us, be it votes or support of some type. Because he — like most Republicans — has that goofy idea in his head that all members of the media, even those working at small-town papers, have it out for Republicans. While I am harsh on Republicans here, when I reported news I always prided myself in giving members of the GOP a fair shake and I count several current and former GOP elected officials as friends from my time covering them; they would cite my fairness and integrity as the main reasons for this. Fletcher was nasty and short with me from the outset on numerous occasions when I covered his campaign appearances, despite the fact that nothing in my stories could be construed as biased against him. My opinion columns are a different story, but that's because they are just that — my opinion — and I went out of my way to successfully draw a line between the two. Fortunately, I don't cover news anymore, but if I still did, I would still give Ernie a fair shake in a news story. By the same token, I would blast him in an op-ed column, but you would not realize the writer of the news story and the column was the same person other than by the name on the byline.
