It's a shame Mason can't have 3-4 varsity teams with all that talent.

Sarcasm?

Not trying to seem "sarcastic" here but even if Mason had 3 teams last year GRC would still be the one team out of those four (3 Mason, 1 GRC) to go to Rupp representing the 10th region last year. Mason is the favorite for sure this year and will need all that talent collectively to give them the best chance to reach Rupp.

It's not sarcasm, you were the one putting the boys that were listed down and bragging on how good all your players were.

Im not bragging on how good they are im just stating the fact that some kids are just contributors and that doesnt mean that they are top 10 players. Brad Pawsett and Tyreese Scott were contributors but they werent even close to top in the region.

The Royals do have a lot of talent this year and I wish them the best. I think you have the top three boys in the region and Chris Owens is also in there somewhere. I just don't think some of the boys you mentioned are in the top 10 of the region. Just my opinion .

Please discuss the teams/players in a positive manner and leave out the personal jabs!

I agree, i just named alot of contributors.. that was my arguement.

Shooty should not have made the list....Sorry Augusta.

And i agree with CATS ROYALS Bennet is not top 10 right now..

Shooty Staggs, I think, is a great player and is definately a comeback kid...He suffered a knee injury that was I'm sure defastating, but you cannot tell me that he should be over Nick Anderson from St. Pat.

Yeah Nick got snubbed. He would be first in line to be on the top list.

Only warning, drop the disparaging comments toward student-athletes.

I guess it's Tubby's fault.

This looks about right with maybe a couple exceptions IMO. Middlesboro should probably be in the top 10 and Cumberland could be the top team.

Other notable players to watch for:

Nick Smith-Middlesboro

Shanta Zachery-Bell County

Garfield Wilson-Cumberland

Josh Caldwell-Cawood

Brooks Hogue-Cumberland

Adam Rhymer-Cawood

Deke Barley-Corbin

Eric Seidel-North Laurel

Nick Shannon-North Laurel

Blaine Green-Middlesboro

Just my opinion but the 16th region rankings are always a little funny. No Evan Faulkner, no Drew Johnson? Nothing against the players on the list, but personally I feel that Evan Faulkner is the 2nd best player on Elliott County. He is a better shooter than his brother, and is more versitle have seen him actually decently guard post players this past season. Johnson is in a virtual tie for Chad Jackson for the most athletic guard in the region. He is a freak. He can shoot the 3 or take it to the rack. He's a little passive at times, so maybe that hurts if he didn't do well against the Ashland area teams or whatever. Also, I think West Carter's Chris Barker should atleast be in the conversation for top 10 in the area. What post player is more athletic? Which one besides possibly Selby is stronger? No true block worker has anywhere near the touch that he has. Before an argument starts I didn't count Euton as a true post because he spends 1/2 the time on the arc, which he right fully should because he can shoot the lights out. Preseason rankings are meaningless anyways, especially when there done by sports writers who don't thoroughly cover the ENTIRE region. How many times have the daily independent writers watched Bath County or Lewis County play? I feel a more accurate ranking would be to have the returning players and coaches vote, and to not let them select players from their own team or to vote for their team in the team rankings.

As for the top teams outside of Elliott who really knows? I think before the seasons over atleast 3 or 4 teams will have made strong cases for and against being the number 2 team in the region. But truely, all these rankings are meaningless. The only one that will matter in this region is whose the number one TEAM after the regional championship game. But, seriously how many D-1 players are in this region? Jackson, Euton, Knipp, possibly Ferguson, Faulkners. Has this ever been the case before?? In any case this is a rarity and a tribute to the hardwork put in by area players and coaches. Looks to be an exciting couple of years in the 16th!!
