Given that it's this far along in the season, what do you expect them to do? If they try to make huge changes at this point they'll likely do more harm than good. Plus, HHS has come up with some key pass plays when needed... remember the Guidulgi-Conner pass in the HHS-TM game???

 

The history of HHS TOs this season scare me a lot more than their limited passing game.

I would hope that they haven't completely shown their hand as of yet. A good coach doesn't get painted into a corner like that. Do you really think that this is it? I don't.

I'm thinking that the Birds will not see a defense as good as Trotwood the rest of the way. If the running game and limited pass attack got them through that game, I think they will be ok down state.

They had the same production running last year but, in the end, it was the passing game that got them.

 

Hats off to HHS if they can win with running the ball and throwing the screen.

True, CovCath was able to contain HHS' running game in the playoffs, but I will suggest that no team in 5A this year (including Highlands, probably) is as good as CovCath was last year. Plus, HHS' running game seems improved over last year, and the HHS passing game is DEFINITELY better than it was last year.

One thing I forgot to mention. I thoroughly enjoyed watching Milton Peko getting the guys fired up (traditional-style) before they ran onto the field. It was really cool!

 

We couldn't hear his words at the time; but I heard a little of it on the news tonight. Don't know if this is a new thing for him; but I'm hoping he'll do it before every game. It works! :thumb:

He's in the rotation if he is not a starter. It looks like they run a few D-ends in and out. He does have a motor.

Hopkinsville never has been a raw raw type of team. But prior to this game the kids were excited about playing Highlands and eager to take the field. Hopkinsville had a chance to score on their 2nd drive when they took it inside the Highlands 15 before fumbleing. At that point it was 7-0 but it somewhat took the wind out of the cells and Highlands was able to maneuver at will.

 

As for the halftime emotion or lack there from the outsiders opinion. At the half the Tigers staff knew they was in trouble but their concerns were towards two starters who was injured. QB/DE Marshall Stewart suffered a ankle & head injury. OG/DE Caleb Johnson injured a shoulder. Neither played in the 2nd half resulting in a limited offense. Backup QB Kyle Graham completed some stat passes in the 4th but early in the 2nd had trouble eluding pressure. Stewart and Johnson wouldn't have made a difference in the 2nd half outcome but the playcallling would have been different.

 

Hopkinsville will take the learning experience and move on. They knew it was going to be a tough test in playing Highlands. They didn't perform at the level the Coaches had hoped but Highlands does that to a lot of teams they play.

 

On a side note: Hopkinsville took some criticsm from some of the Highlands faithful after the game for going for 2 when they scored their TD. FYI Hopkinsville was without their Kicker today because of a soccer game. Therefor the reason they went for 2 and would have done the same if they had scored any other time.

I didn't see anything wrong with it, and didn't hear anyone around me say anything about it.

As an outsider (and objective as can be): HHS needs a passing game. I'm not sure if they can go through the playoffs and not come across a team that can contain their running game. You cannot simply run bombs and screens. The mid-range passing game is not there in the 3 games I've seen.

 

Different receivers received a lot of playing time in this game that may or may not get the pt when the game is on the line... Dale was sending in a diiferent receiver and corps of running backs 'bout every snap of the ball. The passing game hasn't failed them so far this year and I am thinking it won't in the playoffs.

 

AS mentioned, the passing plays were screens and the long ball - I think Dale will mix it up when and/or, if, necessary. Obviously, this game was out of hand on the opening kick-off.

 

I was more concerned about the No-See M's. The little bugs that were biting throughout the game that nearly emptied the stands in the 3rd Qtr. I have never seen anything quite like that before. Where did they come from?

Silver, I would have to agree. What the heck were those stupid things. At one point...we turned around to talk to the folks behind us about them and noticed EVERYONE in the stands either swatting, waiving or just leaving. It was just like looking at a scene from a movie! My wife had enough...she said, Im going to the car...I will see you later!! LOL.

During the 3rd Qtr. Mrs. Streaker went down to the field towards the south endzone to escape the biting nats. She said it was worse at field level than in the stands!

We had those over on our side too. I looked at one and it was a little green bug. We were also accosted by a very persistant honey bee or two. The one hit the road after Run To State and BigColonel teamed up to (almost) whack him on a Coke can.

I saw him do his traditional battle dance and chant before the Cov. Cath. game and thought that has to be one of the coolest things I had seen, especially at a Highlands game.:thumb::thumb:
