You know what, you're right. Has anyone seen Donald the football manager from Evarts lately?

These kind of guys give flavor to the game. Think of Radio!

Drove by today and it's gonna be one good lookin school. It looks like something from Mars. Anyone care to link the website with the virtual tour and proposed plans that was posted a few months ago.

Spoiled Sport? I don't think so, I just can't figure out what Donald and Speedy have to do with the new football job at Harlan County High School. I also think it is ashame that you all are using Speedy and Donald to make light of the whole situation. They can't get on here and defend themselves. I happen to know Donald really well and he is a wonderful human being and I am sure he would not appreciate his name being used to make fun of the situation but Donald will never know because he is not mentally capable and I am sure Speedy wouldn't either. Shame on you all. If the Harlan Independent faithful has nothing to say that pertains to this thread then I wish that you would either start your own thread and talk about whatever you what or get on the topic.

If I were a betting man I would bet that HDE could probably help you out on the link. Thanks for the compliment of our new school. We are proud of it.

What about Mike Whitaker as a possible coach?

This should show a virtual tour of the school.

I had forgotten all about M. Whitaker. I have heard his name mentioned more than once but again it was just talk. I also heard another name mentioned that is supposedly interested in the new job. Its someone who played or coached at the University of Kentucky. Can anyone help me out with the exact name?

Momma always said if you didn't have anything good to say don't say nothing.

I don't think she ever said if you don't have anything to add then just be a jerk!

Whoa... I know Donald and Speedy as well. I actually know Speedy very well. I don't want you or anyone else to think that I am insulting either of the two because I would not do so under any circumstance. I honestly worry about what Donald is going to do whenever Evarts closes its doors. He has been an integral part of that school for so long that it wouldn't seem right not to have him around. I can honestly say I had more fun with these guys (key word being with) than any other person on any staff I've ever been around. But asking how Donald was doing, and calling Speedy the baseball coach (anyone who has ever been around Harlan High School knows that Speedy is the self-proclaimed pitching coach) was not meant to be taking a stab at them. I'm apologize to anyone who took it in that context.

Now, I will get back on the real topic at hand as well. I don't see Holcomb leaving Breathitt to come to this new school. If the fans of the new school learned anything from the Letcher Co Central situation they should know that it will take a good coach a number of years to make the program gel. I think this job would be a high risk job for a coach like Holcomb to take because of the caliber of players he would be getting (not an insult), the level of competition they will be facing, and the high expectations from the fans and the central office to do well from the start. I personally don't know who will take this job but I think a hard-nosed coaching philosophy (like that of Hilton @ Bell) would be the best to look for in a coach. This is due mainly to the fact that 6A ball is much faster than 1-2A ball and this would kind of level the playing field for the school until it can develop the athletes it needs to be successful. I would not be one bit surprised to see Coach Hensley from Dunbar (and former Cawood great) come and take over this program. He isn't doing the best in the world at Dunbar but he knows this level of competition better than most around E. Kentucky, would be a great coach to start laying the foundation for success, and his offensive coaching philosophy would probably be a great fit as well. Just my opinion.

I understand you were talking to blackbears08 but I have to admit i am glad you cleared that up because i would of had a hard time sleeping tonight had you not. As for your post about the new coach I am all for Hilton but for different reasons. This school like all New Schools will have many hurdles to overcome, BUT the class they play in WILL NOT BE ONE OF THEM. They will be in the mountain Class 5A. This consists of teams like Clay Co., Letcher,

North Laurel, Perry Central , South Laurel and Whitley. All teams that the new school can be competitive with from the get go. I think they are a misconception that the new school will be traveling to Lexington and Louisville for all of there games with teams like Trinity and St. X which couldn't be further from the truth! I am not saying they will dominate from the start but should at least be able to compete. If you look closely several of these teams played the three county schools in years past. For example, Cawood had scrimmages with South Laurel and Whitley. Evarts usually plays Clay Co. or at least in a scrimmage. I think maybe the Green Slim is playing both Clay and Perry also. So Harlan County should do fine in the new class.

When the first draft came out and they plugged Harlan County High in that is where they actually placed them, However they were using old numbers instead of the projected enrollment for the school. If i am not mistaken I am thinking this was completed back at least 2 or three years ago with numbers from as far back as 5 years. Harlan County Schools do not have enough enrollment to be in 6A. HDE probably can give a more accurate discription of what went on but as far as i know it is a done deal with Harlan County playing in the class i mentioned above. After the Article appeared in the lexington paper placing the School in the 6a district ( which you are referring to) Mountain News ran a story that retracted the new class and they had on the news that Harlan County would be placed in the mountain 5A.

I wouldn't be surprised before to long to see the school all the way down in

4a but this would be off in the distance. Harlan County is losing people everyday because of a lack of work.

LB, I'm glad I got that cleared up too. I would not want anyone to make fun of either of those two gentlemen. As far as Harlan Co. going to 5A, I didn't know that either. I figured they were still going to be in the Scott Co distrcit but if they are playing in 5A then they can probably do pretty much anything they want strategy wise. Thanks for the info though, I didn't know that.

They were taken out of the alignment after first being placed in 6A. The KHSAA decided to wait until more accurate enrollment numbers for the school were available. That decision could come soon. I think they will end up in 5A as the long-term solution because the enrollment numbers should place them there.

My reference to Speedy was sincere. He is a Green Dragon fixture and I miss him. And last time I looked I can post on any topic I please. My intention was to inject some humor, but it seems that blew past a couple folks. Live and learn.

I would like to clear up the Speedy conversation also. And I will not post on a different topic again. I played baseball when Speedy was helping the baseball team. I love Speedy and would not make fun of him. I have given Speedy rides to his house and also gave him a couple of jackets off my back when he didn't have one, so please do not say I am making fun of speedy.

As for the new coach, I don't think it will be Hensley, he is pretty happy with his job. I look for it to be someone unexpected, there are a lot of coaches that would love to have this job though.
