Smoking Ban complaints down, but many fines still unpaid

Just to be clear I had no problem with there NOT being a smoking ban and I still, from an idealistic perspective, would rather it be up to individual business owners whether or not to allow smoking. That said, it is nice to go out to a bar and not come home smelling like an ashtray or have my allergies act up on me because of it. That said...

I know I took a whole lot of flak from a number of people I know when I said they needed stiffer penalties if they wanted to enforce this more effectively, I wonder how long before they finally do.

From day 1 I told people that if they wanted this piece of legislation to have any teeth the revocation of liquor licenses needed to be one of the eventual penalties. THAT will make bars stand up and take notice.

Thoughts?

Don't really know..haven't had a meal in Fayette County since the ban.

No offense, but we don't miss you. It's so nice to be able to taste the food again. I wish they would make the ban state wide. If you all saw the pictures the doc took of my father in law's lung (the first one had already been removed) at the time of his death - and watched him die a slow 2 year undignified death at age 62 you'd never smoke again. Even if you would - I sure don't want to breathe it. Can't wait for the folks here in Mt. Sterling to wake up and pass a ban. (The Jerry's doesn't even have a no smoking section... no thanks.) I'd rather make the 30 minute drive to Lex where I can enjoy my meal.

Wrong County.

I am a non-smoker who likes the lack of smoke when I go. I however am 100% against this ban, and always will be.

Yeah, that is more or less where I stand on the issue too. I hate the idea of it, but it is darned convenient.

Why do you guys dislike the smoking ban?

The idea of the government telling private business owners that they are not allowed to make the decision as to whether smoking should be allowed in their establishment or not.

Like RP said and I echoed. From an ideal perspective and from a principled standpoint I am 100% against it. Too much governmental interference in private affairs. However as a non-smoker and someone who finds the practice disgusting it is convenient to go to a bar and not leave smelling like an ashtray.

So you're willing to sacrifice your own health so that the rights of business owners aren't trampled on?

Yes.

They're not. They are willing to sacrifice YOUR health to protect the rights of business owners. Nobody is holding a gun to your head and making you enter a particular business. If a business owner wishes to allow smoking and you still enter his business, then it's on you, not the business owner, not me, not them, and certainly not the government.

I think that is a logical misstep. He would actually be sacrificing his health to go to bars. No one made him go to bars that allowed smoking before.

I generally agree though, I hate the principle of the government restricting liberty but it has been so much nicer to go to a bar in Cinci and not have to deal with it.

Then why can they give me a ticket for not wearing my seatbelt?

If no one forced bars and restaurants to ban smoking, no one would have on their own. Is that fair to me, as a non-smoker?

Isn't that what America is about? Sacrifice Life for Freedom...

If your a Non Smoker don't go into a Business that allows smoking...Freedom of Choice...

I hope Im dead before this Country is Called The USC/The United States of Communism!:creepy:

By the way I am a Non Smoker...
