September 22, 200719 yr Some UL fans turned on him after last week and I'm sure many more will after this week. How has this guy turned this team into what it currently is?
September 22, 200719 yr I think you can pin this lose on his shoulders. His team looked uninspired, defense was terrible and hanging their heads, Urrutia getting personal fouls. Just no discipline. Hopefully the defensive issues will be solved with just time (young players need to develop).
September 22, 200719 yr You can't pin this loss on Coach K unless he is the defensive coordinator. His offense is getting the job done. The DC and his assistants are the only coaches held accountable. 38 points should win any football game.

If the team is uninspired he is partly to blame right?
September 22, 200719 yr All I know is either Mark Story or John Clay mentioned in an article prior to the UK/UL game that http://www.firestevekragthorpe.com had been purchased but not activated yet, I have a feeling there will be one more website available to view now.... Uof L was completely unprepared to play today. syracuse had obviously studied what UK had done to their defense, and subsequently Lousyville has appeared to digress at their weakness, instead of improve. Additionally, the ammount of bonehead plays (Personal Fouls, Unsportsmanlike Conducts, Dropped Passes, Blown Assignments, Kickoff Coverage, and my personal favorite, the onside kick debacle) all can be directly linked to the coaching staff.
September 22, 200719 yr So it's his offense but not his defense? If the team is uninspired he is partly to blame right? He calls the offense not the defense, that's what I meant by saying that and yes he is partly to blame, it doesn't look uninspired to me it looks like they are not coachable because they make the same mistakes over and over.

Well then thats a discipline problem and that goes on the coaches too.
September 22, 200719 yr Well then thats a discipline problem and that goes on the coaches too. Who said it didn't?
September 22, 200719 yr Who said it didn't? Well nobody, just saying. I don't like blaming the coaches most of the time because they aren't playing, but I think this is one of those cases where you can. The UofL defense is VERY young. They just need to develop and learn each other's tendencies. A lot of new faces. I really feel that Coach K is a good coach, he's just in a bad situation. He'll recover, give him time.
September 22, 200719 yr This team has benefited a lot from some GREAT local talent and some good players. UL is in BIG trouble in the future... I said this a long time ago. They may have been just a bubble.
September 22, 200719 yr I stood strongly behind him after the UK game but this is completely unacceptable. There is absolutely no excuse for UofL to lose this game and I rest the blame on his shoulders.
September 23, 200719 yr This U.L. team plays very undiciplined and their coach lets them by with it - appears that they play with no respect for their opponets ( a team can talk trash and smack but they better back it up, U.L. cannot back it up), their coach or their own teammates.Too much "Me" and not enough "Team" on this U.L. team. That is JMO from watching them and I will let others closer to it than I tell where the problems are. Imo it is a case of "letting their alligator mouth overrun their hummingbird butt."
September 23, 200719 yr Maybe Petrino knew exactly when to get out? It's easy to think things are good when you look at talent on paper but things like chemistry are just as important. We never know what all is going on with these big programs behind closed doors. Their pass defense is awful I don't care who is coaching. Coach K is known for his offense not defense. Brohm had 500+ yds today so I don't think the offense is the problem!
September 23, 200719 yr This is a repeat of the same exact issues that got Cassity let go at Illinois.
September 23, 200719 yr Again, I think that the fans (including me) were naive to think that the coaching transition would go without struggles...the sky is not falling, the horses are all there. Things still look bright for the future of the program.
