To my knowledge, there isn't a basketball team in the state that is eligible for the tournament that doesn't compete in the All A Classic.

 

Kentucky School for the Deaf doesn't participate in boys or girls. It conflicts with the Mason-Dixon tournament for deaf schools throughout the south. Otherwise, I know of no boys schools who don't play.

They talking about raising the number back from 110-112 to the 120, that is only about 8 teams. Not even 1 team per Region. Just another example of trying to keep the same teams in the tournament. The All A is an invitational tournament, they can invite whoever they want. They might as well pick some 3A or 4a schools that never have a chance to win a region and include them as well.

It hurts the smaller schools by bringing bigger schools in, which takes it away from its original meaning.

 

It's turning into the All A-AA-AAA Classic.

 

There was nothing said when it started about having 120 schools every year. It was for the SMALL schools.

 

I am sure they had a number in mind when they set the tournament up. Also we are not talking about large gains in population mostly fluctuating numbers from class to class

 

Of course all of this would not matter if we did the Basketball state titles like the football and then schools of all sizes would have a chance to compete at the state level.

The number was set to match the KHSAA Class A football enrollment limits in 1990. They got one-fourth of the football schools, plus almost all of the schools that weren't playing footall.

 

It shouldn't grow too far away from the true Class A schools.

If schools are being consolidated or closed, how are you keeping the SAME teams in the tournaments by expanding the number? You are adding bigger schools.

I can't imagine the All A Classic ever expanding to the point that there would be any 4A football schools in the tournament.

Knott Central and Sheldon Clark were both 3A schools in football not too far back.

 

I've heard Leslie County is also ready to be added.

 

Corbin and Jackson County have both been in the All "A" Classic previously and had no business being there.

425 students in 3 grades is not that big of a school. There are many schools that are smaller and/or very small but this is not exactly a large number of kids.

Just about everybody in eastern Kentucky is going to qualify if they don't at least use 9-12 numbers.

The All "A" was started in 1990 for Class A-size schools, using the same numbers as football. Those same numbers are now bringing in 2A schools because enrollment numbers have dropped, especially in eastern Kentucky.

I see so you have declining population and you want to limit them from increasing or changing it. It is strange because our school is class A for this but 2A for football. I am not sure how football works now.

 

I understand your point in not letting it get schools with too many students so that the true A schools will not be competitive.
