September 11, 200719 yr Born and raised in Kentucky and a huge fan. My grandfather gave me a transistor radio when I was 7 year's old (alot of BGP's don't even know what that was) he showed me two station to listen to the RED's and Kentucky and I have never stopped. And as cshs81 stated waking up on Sunday and watching Lindsay Nelson on the replay of the Notre Dame game's from Saturday I became a big Notre Dame Football fan. Pro sports Bengal's, Red's and the NY Giant's. JD
September 11, 200719 yr I root for any team that runs the Triple Option. Just love to see that offense. I absolutely love to see that offense. Bear Bryant's wishbone, B. Switzer, T. Ozborne, F. Solich, D. Royal and all others that ran the football and the option. I am old school and I love it! :thumb: "When you throw the ball there are three things that can happen and two of them are bad..................A completion is good, incomplete pass and interception are bad".
September 11, 200719 yr "When you throw the ball there are three things that can happen and two of them are bad..................A completion is good, incomplete pass and interception are bad". Try this one: When you RUN the ball there are 3 things that can happen, and 2 of them are bad.........Gaining yards is good, tackled for 'loss or no gain' and fumble are bad.......
September 11, 200719 yr I was born and raised in Western Tennessee. On Saturdays, my Dad and I always listened to the Voice of the Vols, John Ward, as he described the action on the field. I was hooked on the Big Orange at that time. I ultimately received my degree from UT and cemented my Orange allegiance. I've lived in NKY now for over 15 years and joined this website to learn about the Kentucky High School traditions in sports back when my 2 sons were playing football for Conner. My Mom taught me not to be obnoxious to gracious hosts as my friends in NKY have been (not to mention the good people here on BGP), so I try not crow too much about my Orange obsession (some of my friends from my days of coaching in the Boone County Peewee Football League might beg to differ on that though ). Since I've lived in Kentucky for the time that I have, I have developed an affinity for the UK Wildcats (as long as they aren't playing the Vols). I really like watching any team that has an explosive offense such as the offenses of Urban Meyer, Steve Spurrier, or any of the spread offenses. I totally dislike the gators as well as Spurrier and Meyer, but I give credit where it is due - both are evil geniuses .
September 11, 200719 yr I have a few teams that I pretty much always cheer for for various reasons... UK - hometown school, pretty obvious Southern Cal - my favorite team when I first started watching football...Rodney Peete vs. Troy Aikman I'll always cheer for those two no matter what. A couple others that I almost always cheer for... South Carolina - I'm a huge Spurrier fan...I loved Florida when he was there, now I like Carolina. Alabama - I've always liked them...I've got a thing for plain uni's (like Penn State and ND). They really won me over with that beatdown of Gino Toretta in the Sugar Bowl. Teams I frequently cheer for because of uniforms, tradition, etc... Michigan - Stadium (Big House), uniforms and fight song are second to none, IMO. I've been a Michigan fan more often than not. Penn State - Love the uniforms, the tradition, Happy Valley is cool... Notre Dame - Again, love the tradition, and especially the golden helmets. Also, I like Charlie Weis. Nebraska - Again, love the unis and tradition (Red Sea and Blackshirts). I liked them better when they were a smash mouth option team. Louisville - They're close to home and usually have a lot of in state guys...I like to see them succeed. Oklahoma - I hesitate to put them on here... I really like Bob Stoops so I cheer for them sometimes because of him, but I'm not really a huge OU fan. SEC Teams - most of the time I cheer for them The rest of my teams vary and depend on circumstances. If a team has a player I really like, then I'll often cheer for them while that guy is there...like Calvin Johnson at Georgia Tech. I cheer for SEC teams a lot when they play OOC, with the exception of Tennessee. For some reason, I've never liked them. Which brings me to... ...teams I rarely cheer... First, these are teams you'll never see me cheer for. Ohio State Florida State Teams I rarely cheer for... Texas, Tennessee That probably covers it for the most part. I'm up-and-down with other teams depending on who they're playing, who plays for them and who their coach is.
September 11, 200719 yr My love of football came from not playing the sport but thanks to a little game I like to call "crack" or Tecmo Bowl for the Nintendo. Tecmo Bowl ignited my love of the game of football. Because I was born and raised in Kentucky I became a Kentucky fan by default. What I did not become was a Benglas and/or Browns fan. For some reason, as young as 5 as family photo albums indicate, I latched on to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Despite the best efforts of Dad's, Uncles, Ramblers, and whoever else I have never waivered from my Steelers fandom. But, I truly love professional football above anything else. In 1993 I found this little game on Prodigy called "fantasy football" and my live was forever changed. I went from loving the Steelers to loving the Steelers AND the NFL. At one point in the 90's I decided Florida State had awesome uniforms so I became a FSU fan. I still watch FSU evertime they are on and am not pleased with the state of the 'Nole Nation. But I have always been a much bigger UK Football fan, which has been a tortured life to be sure. But even so, I enjoy rooting for the 'Cats if only for once in a blue moon when we get a big regular season win it feels like we won the Super Bowl. That's why I took the plunge with the tax return and went in with a friend and became a season ticket holder this year. So far we have had a lot of fun going to the games. Of course Dad and Uncle's could tolerate Steeler fandom, but one thing they would not stand for is me rooting for anything OTHER than UK Basketball. So I remain an enthusiastic supporter of UK B-ball to this day, originally out of fear, but now out of pride and passion for the team's tradition and history. The only teams I universally loathe are the Dallas Cowboys, Oakland Raiders, Indiana Hoosiers, and it used to be the Browns but now they have become a joke and I just feel sorry for them. I don't like the fans of the Bengals or Ohio $tate because I think they are generally jerks, but that can be said about any fan base. But I don't mind their teams all that much, just the fans. I am a big Chad Johnson/Carson Palmer fan and wish them the best the other 14 games of the year. Anyway so there you go!
September 11, 200719 yr Try this one: When you RUN the ball there are 3 things that can happen, and 2 of them are bad.........Gaining yards is good, tackled for 'loss or no gain' and fumble are bad....... But...............there is more of a risk I believe in throwing the ball. Besides, why do you have to come and jump in here and cloud things with logic and a legit argument  , you know that is not the BGP way.
September 11, 200719 yr I guess I kinda became a Nebraska fan while watching them in the Orange Bowl in 94. They lost to FSU that game but they became my team after that. Then after that they went on a huge run winning back to back national titles and 3 in a 4 year stretch which included the best college football team of all time (95 huskers). If you think USC has a dynasty now, Nebraska's run thru the 90's was even better. Absolutely loved watching Tommie Frazier play QB and he became my favorite player ever. After learning more and more about the history of NU football and its fan base Im absolutely positive I couldnt pick a better team to root for. There's no place like Nebraska! Also root for UK because im a KY boy after all and I feel the same way about UK basketball as I do about NU football. I couldn't had said it better. I didn't watch much college football, watched a lot of pro ball but never college. One day I was flipping through and stopped on Nebraska when they were running the Option. I was hooked and have been ever since. That 95 Nebraska team was IMO the best team ever assembled on a college football field.:ylsuper: That being said....bring on the Trojans!:fight:
