I think Iam going to go with East in this one.. Sounds like they have a sound defense but they could alittle problem scoring.

East Carter has won 3 out of the last 4 verses Raceland. A couple of those were so convincing that Raceland started to drop this series that they have historically dominated. Now few give the Raiders a chance even though they return nearly everyone and Raceland had significant losses on both sides of the ball.

 

What do you think is the major reason for this return of Racelands feeling of superiority in this series?

I'm thinking this just might be the game of the week on this side of the state. I'll take the rams in O/T.

Raceland was going to drop East Carter, but continue to play Ashland, Greenup Co, and add Russell - OK. Perhaps they were not going to drop East Carter at all, or maybe they were going to drop East Carter to play someone else, like Russell. But to just say that Raceland was going to drop East Carter because East was going to dominate a series that Raceland leads something like 35-5 in ludicrous.

Perhaps they were not going to drop East Carter at all, or maybe they were going to drop East Carter to play someone else, like Russell. But to just say that Raceland was going to drop East Carter because East was going to dominate a series that Raceland leads something like 35-5 in ludicrous.

:thumb: When Raceland plays the likes of the people that you mentioned as well as some that we have played through the years (Lawrence Co., Paintsville (who is on the schedule again), Pikeville for a couple of years) with who we still play and have added Russell and as I undertstand have had talks with Ironton, yeah Raceland tried to cancel just bc they have lost a 2 or 3 lately to East..........Right . Raceland leads the series 22-5.

TJ is a very good coach and for the most part had his way with both East and Raceland when he was with Greenup. He will be a head coach again somewhere in the near future and do well. Having good athletes is the largest part of the equation for Raceland's confidence but a coaching staff is important also. Raceland's coaches do an excellent job. East is not real good in the secondary and that could be a problem for them. They do like to bring pressure so Raceland's line will be tested by East's linebackers. Offensively, I look for East to shake things up a bit, maybe putting Carroll at RB. He is dangerous and Raceland must be aware of him. If East can get enough pressure to disrupt the passing game, it could be a good one. The lower scoring game favors East. If it is track meet, Raceland will run away with it.

Scoff if you like but it is true. The folks from Grayson were just as surprised that a school that had dominated East was no longer interested in the series.

If not for a certain AD that is no longer at Raceland the series would more than likely have been dropped at Raceland's request.

Enter improved homegrown talent, a couple of Greenup imports...namely TJ Maynard, focused in school weight program...and boom Raceland looks pretty darn good again. And the thought of not playing East Carter seems laughable. But trust this folks...it was dead true at the time.

Russell would have been a great add and certainly justified dropping East. Besides the gate (huge), it would prepare the Rams for the playoffs. East was competitive for a short while but the Russell game makes a lot of sense. Just not at the end of the season when you could get some kids banged up heading into the play-offs or losing momentum. I know you kind of had to add them where you can fit them in (for both schools). I don't think Raceland is one to run away from anyone. Russell was a great fit, big money, playoff competition in a playoff atmosphere. That is what Raceland wants to get ready for the payoffs. That is why Raceland schedules Ashland, Greenup Co, and Russell - all are great competition with playoff atmosphere. How else can you prepare for the playoffs.

Raceland coaches want the toughest non-district schedule possible, that is the only way Raceland can prepare for the level of competition that they will see in the playoffs. Big games with big crowds, with big competition.

It is very possible that the Raceland/Ironton game will never come to fruition, but you never know until you ask. It would be great to have a series with Ironton to raise the bar.

I also understand that the Russell/Ironton series will be back in 2009. So, if Ironton plays Ashland and Russell, I doubt they will add a third Kentucky team in Raceland.

Things like this can be spun anyway a particular group likes and a great season like the '06 Raceland campaign can certainly turn up the orange hue that people view the world; however, the reality of the situation is that following the 03 and 04 seasons things were not so rosey in Ram land as many would want you to believe.

 

In addition to back to back losses to East Carter, a usual whipping boy on the Rams schedule...the Rams lost back to back to Greenup. Lost to Paintsville, were scored on at will by Lexington Christian (100+ I believe), had 51 and 58 hung on them in back to back season by arch-rival District Champion Fairview (that alone was unforgivable in RamLand! Remember the coaches quotes in the paper about how Fairview has outhustled, outplayed and yes "outrecruited") and then took their normal playoff poundings in Northern KY.

 

I wonder at that point if the Rams were really looking to drop East so that they could add Ironton and/or Russell? Please! Quite honestly I think the natives were restless and they needed some wins!

Looking to play Russell and Ironton now...sure why not. But after the 03/04 years...I think not. But I could be wrong.

 

Anyway, I think Raceland will win vs. East. I think that the East defense will be on the field a lot as the Raiders search for some offensive punch. Holding a team out of the end zone gets very frustrating after a while with no hope for points on the board.

 

Coach Maynard's defense is what has made the difference in the Ram Revival and his unit will not let the boys from Carter County get untracked this week.
