Interview Tips please

Featured Replies

I have a interview with the Federal Government in the prison system in a couple of weeks, and I was just wondering if any of my fellow bgper's are employeed by them or if anyone had any tips for me as in what they want to hear or what not to say. Thanks in advance and wish me luck! :thumb:

Yeah body mass is always the best place, hopefully if I am hired I won't have to expirence that lol.

Do some research on the place...so when they ask if you have any questions...then you can have them prepared and they know you are really interested by doing some research. Do a follow up call or letter or e-mail after the interview...again shows your interests. Do not talk too much...answere the questions...but don't give them your life history. No gum, turn phone off or leave in car. Don't be late or too early...10 minutes early is acceptable. Have good eye contact....but don't stare. Shows confidence. Use a firm hand shake...not a wimppy one.

This is what I can think of right off the top of my head...hope this helps.

I'd go in wearing cut off blue jean shorts, a sleeveless t-shirt and a trucker cap. I'd be chewing some sort of tobacco whilst smoking a cigarette. I'd wear sunglasses so they couldn't see my eyes, and I'd keep looking at my watch so they get the point to make it as quick as possible.

On a serious note, what gold_sunrise said sounds good to me.

HB I couldn't tell you wanted to be in law enforcement.... Thanks for the advice though. lol

Don't ask if you can visit someone while you are there:D

I watched this woman talk about body language during an interview and she said the following: Don't have a wimpy handshake but don't break their hand with one either. Don't sit and put your hands to your face, such as trying to hold your face in your hands. Don't wiggle around in your chair. Lean forward, just a little when they are talking, she says this makes it look as if you are interested. Don't talk...talk...talk...talk....just answer the questions. Don't tell them your life history. Don't sweat and if you are prone to sweating, wear something dark that won't show sweat spots:irked: Don't be late and don't arrive 1 hour ahead of your scheduled time, this makes you look too needy. Make sure nothing is stuck in your teeth. I had that happen on time with a woman I was interviewing and I couldn't get passed it. Other than all of this.....relax and enjoy yourself!

Great advice. I would also add that you pay close attention to your personal appearance. Dress as nice as possible but do not go overboard. A haircut & shave may also make a lasting impression.

Best of luck and I hope the job becomes yours.

Whan they ask you to describe your worst fault, don't say "Dependability - I just can't seem to drag my carcass in to work on time".
