August 20, 200719 yr Global warming nuts. I wonder if any of these concerned environmentalists gave any consideration to the collective effect that their 600 gluteal fatprints would leave on this allegedly fragile, melting Swiss glacier. Let’s see, 600 X 98.6 degrees…..I’m not very good at math, but that’s got to be equivalent of a few celebrity jets. What if the men were all writing their names in the snow?? This could actually be a terrible, exhibitionist act of environmental vandalism against this poor glacier. They look like a bunch of walruses, for Pete’s sake.
August 21, 200719 yr Kinda makes you wonder what fun would have ensued if a group of Inuits had shown up with harpoons and clubs... (I know… Inuits aren’t indigenous to Switzerland… too bad.) Just think how smug these folks felt going home knowing they did their part to save the environment... That had to be worth a few thousand carbon offset credits each… even if their part involved shivering naked on a glacier with their nose pressed against some other dude's backside for fifteen minutes... People are amazing...
August 21, 200719 yr And yet, here we are, on another continent looking at a picture of a shrinking glacier. Not my cup of tea, but it sounds as if it worked.
August 21, 200719 yr ...and looking at a goofy picture of ridiculous nudists shivering translates to meaningful action against a natural phenomenon we have virtually zero ability to influence how exactly?

August 21, 200719 yr The only thing that would have made that any better is if they all got stuck to the glacier as if they were "triple dog dared".
August 21, 200719 yr ...and looking at a goofy picture of ridiculous nudists shivering translates to meaningful action against a natural phenomenon we have virtually zero ability to influence how exactly? The zero ability to influence is the rub. Is global warming happening? Seems to be. Is that proof? Nope. Are people contributing to the warming, if it is happening? What I have read makes sense, but that is a long way from proof. If you believe, based on the measurements and analysis to date, that man induced global warming is happenning calling attention to it is not a goofy thing. Is that the way I would do it? No, butt, have at it if that's what you want to do. I repeat, here we are, talking about it, so if their intention was to bring attention, it worked.

I differ with you from the standpoint that 600 naked shivering activists sprawled out on a glacier has done nothing to further our understanding about global warming one way or another. It has however, fueled discussion on the sensibility of protesters going to extreme measures to draw attention to themselves. I'm certain there were plenty of self-pleased warm and fuzzy sentiments percolating beneath the goose bumps in that photo. I'm also certain there was more than one pervert in the bunch that could care less if the ice caps melt tomorrow... he's getting naked with 599 other folks today. All the naked PETA activists have done absolutely zip in dissuading me from ingesting meat or wearing leather and fur. I am not alone. I simply don't think these protests are as effective in illuminating a cause as they are in saying, "Hey, I'm naked look at me... oh, and by the way don't eat meat."
August 21, 200719 yr We need to ban farting. Methane is very bad for the atmosphere.Good point... you go first. Every movement needs a leader. :thumb:

August 21, 200719 yr I fail to see how the inevitiblity of global warming diminishes the responsibility we have to leave the world as much a better place for our future generations as we possibly can.
August 21, 200719 yr OK, I've been good as long as I could..... I bet that left six hundred frozen ice holes. Did you know sitting on the ice will give you polaroids? I can't tell from the photo if the glacier is melting, but it does have 600 cracks. Frozen nuts or just frosted flakes?
