August 9, 200719 yr That's the problem, many times they are tried to be explained away. I just watched a pre-game with Reds and one was interviewing Hal and they both agreed, shame what Bonds was doing and one offered "A-Rod will pass him but not soon enough" (paraphrasing).... I can then turn over to watch a Braves game and here nothing, but accolades for Chipper Jones. I can't understand but certainly can, draw conclusions. For every action, there is an equal or opposite reaction and I guess the same, can be applied to "justifications". I wasnt clear in my post. While we as a society are very forgiving especially for athletes, we as parents have no problem making it clear that cheating on your wife/stealing/drugs/etc is unacceptable. However, when we equivocate on Bonds by saying "baseball wasn't checking" and ignoring the smoke that is obviously coming from a fire while our children then see all of the accolades coming his way, not to mention the cash, its easy for them to think its OK. Cheating on your wife doesn't make you a better player. Steroids/enhancers do.

Cheating is a character issue and if one does in private, could one assume it could result in sport....becasue in reality, everyone is assuming Bonds has. I think it's a sad reflection today, of who we are quick to prosecute, convict and judge guilty, a guy who has never tested positive, other than the "cream". Do we want sports heroes to fail, do we want them to be imperfect and just bolsters my contention, role models should never be an athlete.
August 9, 200719 yr Most of the reaction is because of Barry Bonds the person. He has been a thorn in the side of the media ( they probably deserved some of it) and at times has treated fans as if they did not exist. His people skills need some work and his attitude rubs some the wrong way. He really fits the mold of several of today's athletes as far as attitude toward others. They have a tendency to distant themselves from the everyday person. Crap, absolute crap. Why does he need to improve his attitude when he has been convicted without any evidence? Maybe it's the people and the media who need to improve instead of crucifying (spelling) the man off of hearsay. How do we know that the person isn't using Bonds for publicity, because people do use athletes for that purpose you know. What about McGuire? He wasn't hounded the way people do Bonds when he broke the single season record and was way larger than his earlier days. There is a bigger issue here that has never really gone away, and that's why people continue to chastise Barry. Jose Canseco is a hero to america and he cheated. The Bond's, Bryant's, and Vick's of the world get the raw end when the subject first comes up and it never really goes away. When the Giambi's, Canseco's, McGuire's, Romanowski's mess up, it usually lasts about two months and you never hear of it again.

You're going to have to come stronger than this if you're going to cry racism. Bonds is the one breaking a BLACK man's record AND there is hardly ANY chance he is not a juicer. If it was McGwire, he'd get the same questions. It would be not as vitriolic because he's not an horse's rump like Bonds is. However, the great great majority of those who are cynical today would be as cynical with McGwire . Jose Canseco is a hero to America? I must have missed the memo. He's considered a clown by the majority of folks I know. Kobe has great support among all races. Vick is obviously troubled so regarldess of skin color, we'll chastise him and rightfully so. Giambi admitted his wrong AND is not ready to break a hallowed record. Romanowski is completely dismissed as a punk, jerk, cheater by EVERYONE. Racism is alive and well in America but you're completely off base on this one.

August 9, 200719 yr I think had it been Sosa he wouldnt have gotten it as bad either. Americans have a funny way of over looking things or taking them lighter if you try and relate to them. Bonds makes no qualms over alienating himself by acting like he's above eveyrthing. Had he not been a liar or a jerk it would be handled a lot differtly. Certainly there would be skeptics but not to the point where a lot were hoping he'd get injured...

Jose Canseco is a hero to America? I must have missed the memo. He's considered a clown by the majority of folks I know. And you don't watch TV either because he's on it quite often, and not playing babseball. Kobe has great support among all races. Now, and that's not back to where it used to be. So many people said that Kobe is guilty, all over TV. Vick is obviously troubled so regarldess of skin color, we'll chastise him and rightfully so. Didn't someone else get in trouble for Cockfighting. Isn't there a ref. who has been fixing NBA games, NBA games? Don't hear as much about him as I do Vick, and that's by a landslide. Giambi admitted his wrong AND is not ready to break a hallowed record. Why should it matter? Cheating is cheating. What does a record have to do with cheating? Romanowski is completely dismissed as a punk, jerk, cheater by EVERYONE. Racism is alive and well in America but you're completely off base on this one. You said it, I didn't

August 9, 200719 yr "Barry's a great player, there's no question about it, but he put an asterisk by his name on his own," Murphy said Monday on AM radio 1280 The Show. "He's deserved all the negative publicity that he's getting. http://www.ajc.com/braves/content/sports/braves/stories/2007/08/08/bonds_murphy_0808.html This sets a very bad example for our kids and is a large part of what's wrong with our country today. Guilty before proven innocent. Why would you say that about a historical figure? History books don't say the awful things the europeans did to the indians after columbus "so called" discovered america.
August 9, 200719 yr If it would've been McGuire, he would've been president for a day. I don't agree with that. Look at how people look at McGwire now. He could not be president of anything.

If you want to call someones post crap, first you must understand what they posted. I never once mentioned anything about Bonds being convicted or any use of roids by him or anyone. I simply stated that Bonds has had a bad relationship with the media throughout his whole career and there is no doubt about that, everyone knows it. I also mentioned that the media was somewhat responsible for Bonds being off limits to their interviews. Once again you failed to read that or simply missed it. FYI, my post was an answer to another posters question. I answered the question without any derogatory remarks or insults, maybe next time you can try and do the same. My post wasn't about anyone except Bonds, you took it upon yourself to add the other names for reasons of your own.

Great Post here cshs:thumb: , absolutely true and imo all on this board can very well tell what the pledgreatno2's agenda is here. "Stirring the Pot" for fun is one thing but always negative is way beyond "getting old". :irked:
