July 30, 200719 yr Here's my dilemma. My Xbox 360 has began freezing in the middle of games, saying "The disc is dirty or damaged" blah blah blah. I tried every game, it says the same thing. I even took the first game back (NCAA 08) to make sure it wasn't a bad disc. I think the lens is dirty, but not sure. Would it work to use some sort of lens cleaner, or do you all think I should call Xbox and try and get them to fix it? It will work from time to time, but then at some times it won't even read the disc.
July 30, 200719 yr Be extremely careful, what liquids you add to internal parts, as this may void your warranty. Call the X-Box folks and explain, see what the troubleshooting is....You could get a job and quit playing so much.
July 30, 200719 yr Well I do know that Gears of War discs do occasionally come up with the "disc read error". I haven't had that happen on any other game than MLB 2k7 so I dunno what to tell you other than DO NOT put any sort of lens cleaner or other liquid in your 360 before having contacted XBOX.

I honestly don't play that often. And I have a full-time job...for now.
July 30, 200719 yr Author Call X-box and have them trouble shoot it for you before you do anything. Sounds like what I'll do. I'll update you all on what they say, if you care to know.

July 30, 200719 yr What exactly do you mean? When CD's get scratched (on the bottom), there's a device that cleans and resurfaces the bottom so the scratches don't interfere with the laser. All the data is on top of the CD, so it doesn't affect it. If you're getting the error on every game, then you know the problem is with the 360 and not the game disc.

Yeah I've tried one copy of NCAA 08, then got a new copy because I thought it was the disc, and then I tried Ghost Recon II as well, and all are getting the same problem.
July 30, 200719 yr Is the machine Getting Hot? How old is your 360? When I first got mine last Christmas I had trouble with it Freezing up,I got so Frustrated with the None English speaking Help People that I Took it back to Wal-Mart were they exchanged it with a New one.No Problems in Six Months/Knock On Wood... Good luck!
July 31, 200719 yr Author I got mine at Target about a year and a half ago, I think. It may have been getting hot, but it would do it shortly after I turned it on. I had the HD DVD player sitting on top of it (the xbox HD DVD player). I had it on there because that's the way it was shown on the box when I bought the HD DVD player. I decided to move it to where it was sitting beside the 360, and since I did that it is working fine. that may have been the problem, but who knows?
July 31, 200719 yr X-Box 360's have been notorious for this, Returns on them are 15-20 times higher than Wii and PS3 combined. In fact Wii's have had way less than 1% returned they are doing great.
