I think the fact that he loved the game enough to play all those games in a row and that he had the respect for the game to play it the right way goes a long way to making him suited for the role. You'd be hard pressed to find anyone that cares more about baseball than Cal Ripken Jr.

July 26, 200719 yr I just meant I don't think it swayed any votes whether he should be in the HOF or not. I got ya:thumb: Maybe not a 100% sway but I still think some of the guys that have a vote always think about the streak when they think of Ripkin.

His stats....and understanding of the game, from both a player and management standpoint.

That gives him a leg up on whatever lawyer/politician that would probably be offered the job. At least you could say that he would honestly have the best interests of baseball in mind when he made his decisions--he's only been around it his entire life with his Dad and all. He might not have a PHD in business or business law but I'd much rather see someone like him in that spot.
July 26, 200719 yr Cal Ripken helped bring baseball back to good standing and he seems to be very intelligent with the game of baseball. Plus he is older and from a non-steroid era so IMO he is more pure and doesn't have anything to hide from anyone and I think he could do a really great job with the game of baseball.
July 26, 200719 yr Of course, with or without the streak. Anyone who can have over 3,000 hits and over 400 homeruns (especially at shortstop) deserves to be in the Hall.
