5A 2007 Playoff Scenario

Featured Replies

Mercer didn't play in 3A or 4A last year because when the merger became official it was too late to move up. I believe the merger became official last year around May or June. The timing of the merger made it impossible for Mercer to move up in such short notice nor do I think it would have been allowed. A lot of people close to both programs from Mercer and Harrodsburg knew that Mercer had a huge advantage against the other 2A schools and in my opinion and the opinion of quite a few others in Mercer, Mercer had no business not going undefeated and winning state. Russell gave them a great game in the state final, but had the weather conditions been a little more favorable, Mercer would have destroyed Russell, in my opinion. There wasn't a team in 2A that could handle the two headed monster of Cory Jackson and Brandon Ford. Their defense was nasty and they were probably the only 2A school whose best players played primarily on one side of the ball for a majority of the time. Every now and then you might catch a few going both ways, but there was only 2 or 3 that played exclusively both ways as opposed to most 2A schools having most of their players playing both ways most of the games. Mercer had to have had the freshest legs in 2A.

Yes, it is the same Mercer that played Newport.

Mercer has a new QB, new RB's, and new DB's. They are still loaded with talent and should make some noise and then we'll see what they are made of in November.

I don't think anyone from Mercer is claiming to be king of 5A. But, I don't think they care for the doubters who are throwing it at them. There has been too much talent come from that area for them not be successful. They may never win a 5A title but they will be in the hunt.

I've been waiting for you. I am not trying to throw doubt around, just being truthful. You know I wish the best for you guys. Except against BG and BC.:D

Our fantasy football league is up and running, you can go pick your keepers if you want to keep anyone. I'm doing a draft right now.

winner of Highlands and Dixie district final wins 5a, plain and simple.

Yeah, beating up on 2A schools with a 3A lineup doesn't make you a big boy all of a sudden. You have to earn it. Yes, Jaggers is 2-0 against my Purples but you are discrediting Lincoln if you say the talent level wasn't equal. We had Shawn Taylor and a 1st year(sophomore) QB in 93 from a team that lost a large amount of starters on offense and defense so don't act like Lincoln pulled off the upset of the 90's by beating the BG teams from 93 and 94 which were much like Boyle County's team last year. I know Mercer's passing game wasn't capable because I saw your passing game. Yeah, you didn't have to throw much, but trust me, if you want to WIN a 5A state title, you better learn to throw the ball efficiently. No one trick ponies will win 5A or 6A state championships. In the early 90's before KY high school football was as intricate as it is now, everybody ran, but after the Tim Couch era, passing the ball became vogue and the bigger schools with capable athletes took notice. You must also stop the pass if you want to win and the best passing team you guys faced last year was Boyle County. I am not taking anything away from you guys at all. I rooted for you guys, I froze my tail off watching the 2A title game screaming for you guys. I work in Harrodsburg and understand the hard feelings about the merger working themselves out as you guys went on to have a great season unified. But one state title in a lesser classification doesn't make you a big boy. Even BC wasn't given big boy status until after they moved up from 2A to 3A and kept on winning championships. Win state again this year and prove me wrong, until then, I will say to all the Mercer County fans that I work with, you can't hang with the big boys.

See you in December.:fire:

Tell me, what's it like to be such a great "Armchair Quarterback/Coach"!??

I agree wholeheartedly, but will still hope, wish, pray, and dream that my beloved Purples can finally pull one out against the bigger boys at the big game in Louisville. I feel like a Bills fan.

Are you sure you were at the right field last year? Exactly WHAT do you consider efficient??!!

Watched a couple of Mercer games last year, and had them all figured out did you? I know 15 coaching staffs that could have used your "expertise" last year.

Didn't Coach Jaggers say last year. "If you want to see our passing game stop the run"

Dixie Heights @ Highlands - Highlands wins

CCH will start the year ranked third in their district and rightly so. HHS is #1, Dixie #2 and then the Colonels. Way too many questions, way too many new players (who may turn out to be very good but its simply too early), new system on offense.

I'm not sure why this is but Dixie seems to have one loaded grade every 3 or 4 years. This senior class is the newest version of the 2004 Dixie team (class of 2005).

CCH @ Dixie will decide the #2 spot IMO. Right now, the nod goes to the Red Colonels.

I would have to agree, but i dont know how you can rank Dixie above CCH. I dont care how unexperienced this team is. I can see putting them in second but third??

I hope I'm wrong. I hope the 18 or so new starters can gel by the end of the season. I really hope Buckley has a monster year and can carry them early.

I'd defy anyone to explain how they would rate Dixie behind CCH.

None of this means they won't be rolling at playoff time. I'm just saying that by the time they get to Dixie in the regular season, they may still be figuring out personnel and systems against a talented AND experienced senior-led team.

Lastly, don't take this as a negative. I've got a lot of faith in Coach Brossart and his staff.

It will be interesting to see what kind of year Mercer will have.

I see where you are coming from, and i have to agree. I think once CCH figures out there QB position a lot of questions will be answered about this new offense. They do have Buckley, and thats who everyone is going to be looking at, but dont forget about that passing game. They have some good WR's and if the QB position is solid their passing game could be better than their running game. Plus im not sure how their O line is holding up??
