Do you believe that Baptists are protestant?

Featured Replies

I'm curious as to why some people are so vehemently against falling under a label, whether it be under the broad umbrella of Protestant, or a more narrow one of Baptist, Methodist, Pentecostal, or whatever...

It's just not that big of an issue to me. I don't put too much emphasis or stock into it, but at the same time, it's not like it's a curse.

I wonder the same thing. It's not like it's a bad thing. I mean, it's not like we're saying they're liberal or something! :D

I posted this joke about a month ago in another thread. I feel the need to post it again as it is one of my all-time favorite religion based jokes. Also, it fits well with this thread topic.

I was walking across a bridge one day, and I saw a man standing on the edge, about to jump off. So I ran over and said "Stop! don't do it!" "Why shouldn't I?" he said. I said, "Well, there's so much to live for!" He said, "Like what?" I said, "Well...are you religious or atheist?" He said, "Religious." I said, "Me too! Are you christian or buddhist?" He said, "Christian." I said, "Me too! Are you catholic or protestant?" He said, "Protestant." I said, "Me too! Are you episcopalian or baptist?" He said, "Baptist!" I said,"Wow! Me too! Are you baptist church of god or baptist church of the lord?" He said, "Baptist church of god!" I said, "Me too! Are you original baptist church of god, or are you reformed baptist church of god?" He said,"Reformed Baptist church of god!" I said, "Me too! Are you reformed baptist church of god, reformation of 1879, or reformed baptist church of god, reformation of 1915?" He said, "Reformed baptist church of god, reformation of 1915!" I said, "Die, heretic scum", and pushed him off. -- Emo Phillips

Independent Baptist

Reformed Baptist

Redeemer Baptist

Now as a memeber of the Baptist Church I sometimes wonder about all these differences. If someone wants to know why I go to a "Baptist Church" I'll share with them. I don't want to cause the thread do go astray.

What does "Anabaptist" mean?

What does "Anabaptist" mean?
It means rebaptized. It comes from the belief that infant baptism isn't valid.

All this just makes me even more happy I'm plain ol' Roman Catholic! :D
