July 12, 200719 yr He could buy the Reds now if he wanted to. If Ichiro gets 20 million per year, that will ruin the game. Talk about gas prices being high, the ticket prices will be ridiculous just to pay these greedy players. Soon, Ryan Howard, Adam Dunn, Andruw Jones, Jose Reyes, David Wright, Miguel Cabrara, and Prince Fielder will all look at Ichiro's contract and say "If he is good enough to get 20 million, then I am too." And all these teams will not pay them the money and there will be another strike for money. I hope not, but Ichiro and ARod get their money, baseball will go downhill. Come on now don't try and put baseball's future in the hands of Ichiro. It has nothing to do with him. What about Gil Meche he got a huge contract and he is an anverage pitcher. If you're going to talk about players that are setting a bar then use him because Ichiro deserves every bit of the money he will be getting. So you don't think Miguel Cabrera, David Wright, Jose Reyes are as good as Ichiro?
July 12, 200719 yr The Big Dork was complaining about paying 'just a lead off hitter' $20 Mil a year. Honestly, calling Ichiro 'just a lead off hitter' is an absolute insult and shows his baseball knowledge... For the record, paying anyone that much to play baseball is ridiculous... The Big Dork?
July 12, 200719 yr Until baseball gets a salary cap it's goin to be second fiddle to the NFL. Amen:thumb: Baseball is one strike away from disaster.

I think signing him to that contract was the smartest thing they have done in a long time. Have you not seen Ichiro's stats? In 7 years the guys lowest batting avg is .303, his least amount of hits has been 206. As a lead off hitter he has close to 400 rbi, and over 65 homeruns. Ichiro is one of the best players in baseball, and he will be for some more years to come. In 7 years he already has over 1,400 hits. Pete Rose had just 1,004 hits through his first 7 seasons. Cobb had just little over 1,300 through his first 7 seasons. If Ichiro hadnt came into the Majors at such a late age, he would get 4,000 hits easily if he kept this up.
