The Ashland Tomcat team that won the State Championship, I believe it was in 1960. Best team ever from the 16th Region.

I think Ashland won the state in 1961.

You are correct :thumb:

Top 3:

1.1996-Paintsville

2.1998-Paintsville

3.1994-Allen Central

4.1982 Virgie

5.1981 Virgie

Just to round out my top 5, as BANKSHOT previously mentioned.:thumb:

I thought Ashland won in 1960 and was runner up in 1961, I apologize if I was incorrect.

Flagett over Monticello in '60 and Ashland over Dunbar '61.

In 1966 led by Mike Casey and the 1978 team with Charles Hurt and Norris Beckley.

Here are some contenders in the 10th Region, the one's I've seen or been told about.

1. 2003 Mason Co.-Lofton and Company and the pieces fell into place!

2. 1948 Maysville-Coach Jones and Calvert & Cooke and the rest.

3. 2004 Mason Co.-Lofton & Co. come up a little short, but still a good run.

4. 1984 Bourbon Co.-Coach Day and the Colonels one of the best also.

5. 1972 Maysville-Coach Creamer, Walker, Smith, Turner and a Final 4 appearance with a big upset of Louisville Central in the quaterfinals!

6. 1936 Brooksville-Old timers have told me they had a great team.

7. 1981 Mason Co.-Coach Feldhaus starts the run to Rupp with no stars and a total team concept.

8. 1975 Bath Co.-Bruce Jones and Wildcats, a very solid starting 5.

9. 1968 Clark Co.-Lynn Hopewell and Larry Gay led this stong Cardinal Team.

10. 1970 Paris-Coach Redwine and Big Bill Gaines lead a seldom mentioned but

very good Paris team.

I know I have left out some very good Harrison Co. teams of the 60's and 70's and some very good Clark Co. teams of the 80's that caused my beloved Royals some major problems. Also to all 10th Region fans please refresh my old memory if I have inadvertently left off anybody due to space restraints.

Hard to argue with that list. Maysville's 47 team won the state championship and the 48 team was runner up.

Like I said, I apologize for the incorrect post.

No apologies needed and I had to look this one up, since I wasn't around yet....

The old Dunbar teams of the early sixties with Bobby Washington, Richard Green and Co.

Maysville had been a powerhouse for a long time. Earle D. Jones did a great job with the Bulldogs.

In the 10th, what about the 1998 Fleming County team that made the final four. I think they should be in the top 10 somewhere. The lost to a very good Paintsville team that year.

Woody Crum followed Jones and he also had some great teams.

15th region

1. Painstville State Championship team of the late 90's

2. 1982 Virgie

3. 1981 Virgie

I think the Mike May Virgie team that either went to the final game or the final four, I'm not sure which, is the best 15th region team of all time. JMO.

I respect your opinion on this and some may agree but there is no way imo that that team was a good as the Paintsville state championship team from 96', the 98 Paintsville team or even the 94' Allen Central team who w/out a couple bad breaks and injuries could have eaisly won state. I would however rate those Virgie teams as some of the best ever in the 15th as I posted previously.
