Birdsfan
We all try out hardest to make a strong point as we debate here on BGP. Nowhere is that more true than in our Politics & Religion forum. But some people truly go the extra mile. Some go to absolutely extraordinary lengths to make even the most simple point. For example: We currently have a thread in our Politics & Religion forum discussing the differences between Catholic and Protestant beliefs. Among the most ardent defenders of Catholic dogma and tradition has been our buddy, Rockmom. Recently, someone challenged her on a point that she felt needed further research. Now most of us would try Googling the answer, or simply visiting any number of Catholic web sites. Not Rockmom! No, she made her way to a library and checked out a couple of dust-layered, wormhole-riddled tomes regarding The Virgin Mary. She took the ancient texts and -- per her daily routine -- made her way to the bus stop. There Rockmom sat, in her all black outfit that she wears "because it's comfy." Moments later a man sits down next to her. He glances over a few times -- careful not to catch her eye. He sits briefly in an uncomfortable silence. Finally, he asks the question that had been burning in his mind... "Are you a nun?" "Uhh...no," she replied, trying not to look stunned...or ashamed for not having become a nun when given the chance back in 5th grade. Since she did quit smoking (3 yrs. this Monday), I suggested she reply that she had, "kicked the habit three years ago." At least it wouldn't have been a lie; and I'd have paid to see the look on that poor guy's face! Now, here's the funny part... While she's telling me this story, and I'm sponging the Sprite off my shirt from an involuntary, yet well executed spit-take...a sudden, unexplained loss of power strikes the Rock household! Total darkness! I thought perhaps the whole neighborhood had been stricken, so I casually ask her, "Are you sure it's just you?" "No!", she says emphatically. "It's the whole house!" As if her watch had suddenly stopped or pacemaker was on the blink or something. So, the next time you have a debate with Rockmom, keep in mind that she is now a devout member of The Sisters of the Emaculate Deception based at the Trinity H. S. dormatory. Have ruler -- will travel!
