Excellent job by the GC pitching staff. I believe K. Martin is only a Freshman.

GC showed a lot of poise after their first game loss which imo is a reflection on their coaching staff and the never say quit attitude of the kids.

Congrats are also in order for a good North Laurel ball club who had a tremendous season.

No, the credit belongs to Coach Logan, he pulled this team together and made them a team!!! They only lost three seniors last year, all of which were really good players and with the talent they had , they should have gone places, but it took Coach Logan to pull them together and make them have heart. Every bit of the credit belongs to the boys of that team, Coach Greg Logan, assistant coach Steve Logan ,Nathan Sutton, Gary Miller ,Daniel Gullett and Chris Hughes ~What an amazing Coaching staff and What an amazing TEAM!! This team went from a losing record last year to a State Contender this year~ What a turn around!!!

I was just talking about their ability to hit the ball.

I obviously was not there so I can't speak from actually hearing what was or was not said. I will say that by not being a fan of either team (yes, I was pulling for GC bc they are a 63rd district, 16th region team) that ALL schools have these kind of fans described in this thread. There are also very good fans at every school. Congrats again to GCHS and congrats as well to North Laurel. The North Laurel team was obviuosly very good or the wouldn't have gotten to this point. I did notice that on the post game radio show that GCHS coach Logan really praised the North Laurel program.

I have to disagree somewhat. This is the first time I've witnessed fans drink adult beverages at a high school baseball game.

I would have to disagree with you GCGuard. Coach McGlone, and his assistants should be given some credit. I do feel that Coach Logan has the heart for it. (he does have an investment) Which brings up another question, how long will he stay? We may never know if Coach McGlone could have made it to State. From my observation as an "outsider", why would any coach take the criticism that he took at each game from parents of so called "want to be coaches." McGlone coached three years and I could see how well he knew the game. Tubby's first year as coach, UK won the National Championship, but with Pitino's boys. Congratulation to GC baseball team! The credit does not and should not go to McGlone. It does not matter how long McGlone had these boys because actually Greg Logan has had about 90% of these boys since they were 8 yrs old. So I do beleive he is the one who taught these boys how to play and win.

I agree. McGlone got these boys handed down from Logan.. What these kids know about baseball, most of it came from Greg Logan.

No matter how long Coach Logan stays, He made a committment to this team early on by practicing outside in the snow and sub-freezing temps and I don't think McGlone was able to do that. McGlone wasn't able to deal with parents maybe from a lack of inexperience. These boys and coaches have worked their tail off to get where they are at today, and it isn't any fluke that they will be playing at Applebee's Wednesday night.

I agree also with you. Coach Logan raised these boys on baseball. Zach Stringfellow started varsity as freshman, Tyler Hieneman started regional championship as freshman, Eric Craft was utility player on varsity as 8th grader, and Billy Logan was the varsity starting catcher as an 8th grader. Austin Wright also played for Coach Logan along with Rister, Scaggs, Martin, and the list goes on. Billy Logan, Zach Stringfellow, and Austin Wright were TRI-MVP'S of the semi-state. What an amazing series for those guys.

I was going to reply with nearly the same as what Varsity said, Greg Logan has coached almost this entire team from the time they were 8&9 years old. He took them to State and WON numerous times, they attended the USSSA world series, they also went to Cooperstown and Kansas. Coach McGlone stepped in and couldn't accomplish anything with this talent he was handed. He has not came to support the team this year either , so do we give him any credit for this years team??? Absolutely not!! These boys were taught by Greg Logan from young boys and had the fundamental background to be winners before McGlone even took that team~ He just didn't utilize it.

Why because they both were having fun? I am not sure what happened, but I do know one thing, Logan used to have a bunch of parents on his teams that would sacrifice their Summer and their time to their teams. They would work till there was no end, and sell their Life to Baseball in the Summer time, so if they want to have a little fun at the games then I see no problem with it, as long as it is good clean fun.

 

A couple of questions have arose in this forum....One is who is to thank for the talent level. I believe we all will agree that McGlone was a great guy, but somewhat underachieved with the talent he had. Logan started with most of these boys when they were very young and worked hours and hours with them. Not only did he work with these boys but look at some of the other area schools that have kids returning that was on Logans teams that will be great. Gatlin Barker - Boyd County, Peyton Martin - Raceland, Nicholas Jackson - Paul Blazer, just to name a few. Those are also players that will be the tops of their teams next year. So, to say Logan doesnt deserve any credit if way off, because he is the one with the time invested, because he loves baseball and loves the kids. But he will work their butts off.

 

The last question was how long will he stay? My answer to that is he started something in Greysbranch that everyone said he couldnt do and that was a AABC league at the Fairgrounds. Everyone said he couldnt compete with the Little League system, but he did. And not only did he start it, but it is still going to today and he still has a hand in that. So I believe that should answer the questions of his committment of Greenup Co Baseball.

 

Congratulations to Logan and congratulations to Greenup Co Baseball, but I hope you have to take a backseat in a few years to the Boyd County Storm Players though.:thumb: :thumb:
