Excellent job by the GC pitching staff. I believe K. Martin is only a Freshman.

GC showed a lot of poise after their first game loss which imo is a reflection on their coaching staff and the never say quit attitude of the kids.

Congrats are also in order for a good North Laurel ball club who had a tremendous season.

:thumb: :thumb: I agree cville, Coach Logan and staff have done an excellent job at G.C.. I know that the Logan family has long been a mainstay in Greenup County baseball. I certainly remember them when I was coaching little league and then babe ruth league at Raceland as far back as the late 70's and early 80's they (Greenup Co. / Greysbranch) had Logans playing then. A great family as well.

I am glad to hear these kinds of comments. GC has a very good team and deserves to be playing at Applebees! Congrats to those kids and coaches for their efforts. Greenup County was the better team for 2 of the 3 games they played. North left too many baserunners stranded tonight (twice left the bases loaded, and once with no outs, plus the other runners left stranded) against a solid ball club like GC. You have to generate runs in that situation, and GC managed to keep the Jags from moving those runners around.

 

However, after hearing some of the less than classy comments after these 3 games from some of the GC faithful, I can say that I was very disappointed. Our kids deserve better treatment than that. And, for the record, they are OUR kids. For adults to make comments about kids like that is ridiculous, especially, loudly and within earshot of the NL fans/parents. The excitement during the game is to be expected. But after your team loses or wins, you don't make comment such as after tonight's win "It's a good thing North Laurel didn't win because they certainly don't deserve to be at Applebees. They are just not good enough." or after the loss in the first game to North "I can't believe we lost to this team. This should have been a walkover in 5 innings every game." or "What happened to the 2 game series we thought we would see? I can't believe that this team beat us!" . I will not repeat the other comments overheard, but this gives you an idea of why some of the 'fans' were not well received in victory or defeat these past 3 days. These kids at North Laurel played their hearts out these past few weeks and I commend them, .. win or lose, .. for their efforts! They were playing for the memory of a recently fallen Jaguar, Jon Hooker, and regardless of what some of the GC fans think, ... they did him proud!

 

With that being said, I certainly hope that those fans handle victory and/or defeat better than they did these past 3 days while they are at Applebees. As for the kids and coaches from Greenup who earned the right to play in the elite 8, congratulations & enjoy the trip! Friends of mine from South Laurel who were there last year said it was an awesome experience they will remember for a lifetime. :thumb:

What you overheard from GC fans is unexcuseable and adults need to keep in mind that these are kids, but please remember that you can't group the entire GC fan club by a few comments from a couple of people. The GC fans are really involved with their team , they had TONS of people in the stands for such a long roadtrip and the majority of them were cheering on their team and not trying to belittle anyone out there playing. Everyone should realize that making it to this level means you are a great team and should be very proud of themselves. All of the boys from both Greenup and North Laurel were winners just for getting to this level. Congrats to each and everyone of them on a GREAT season!! This is something they can look back on for years to come .

How many of those kids from last years team are on this years team? Man those young men last year were one of the best hitting teams I saw play, they could hit, and hit and hit some more.....

Unfortunately it wasn't a few Greenup fans making these comments but the majority of them. Congratulations to Greenup they have an excellent team and staff, hopefully their fans can grow up and be adults.

I realize it was only a few, we have some folks like that in our area as well. I live in the middle of the North v South rivalry, which the kids handle just fine, ... it is the adults who sometime get lost in what they say on both sides!

 

I still am wishing those GC kids and coaches good luck and hope they enjoy the trip to Applebees, ... they earned it and deserve it! They have a very solid ballclub and are very well coached! Everyone in Greenup should be proud of those kids and coaches.

No, the credit belongs to Coach Logan, he pulled this team together and made them a team!!! They only lost three seniors last year, all of which were really good players and with the talent they had , they should have gone places, but it took Coach Logan to pull them together and make them have heart. Every bit of the credit belongs to the boys of that team, Coach Greg Logan, assistant coach Steve Logan ,Nathan Sutton, Gary Miller ,Daniel Gullett and Chris Hughes ~What an amazing Coaching staff and What an amazing TEAM!! This team went from a losing record last year to a State Contender this year~ What a turn around!!!

Don't be shocked if GC wins against PRP.

16th Region teams know what it takes to get the job done. IMO
