June 8, 200719 yr From today's AP: Chrissy Pitts, deputy clerk of the Jasper County, Ga., Magistrate Court, said papers seeking to dismiss the case were being filed by the complainants. She said she did not know what prompted their decision not to move forward with their accusations. "It was settled," Pitts said. "We aren't aware of any terms that were involved in the settlement. That was between the attorneys and the parties. They just filed the dismissal with us." Anyone reading $$$ into this? Not that Thurman paid them money to non-file. His attorney would know that this would eventually get out and make him look every bit as bad as if he were actually convicted. I suspect the "$$$" angle had much more to do with the complainants unsuccessfully trying to extort money from Thurman to stay quiet and it backfired big time. Just a guess. No one really knows at this point.

Obviously, there are many conflicts/disagreements that result in $$ for confidentiality/non-disclosure. Are you saying that could not happen here? One side says "you did X" the other side says "no I didn't but in order to get this over with, I'll give you X as long as you agree to not pursue it and to keep it confidential?"

Sure. It does all the time. But I don't think these are the type of people I'd want to be cutting a deal with under-the-table and then have to rely on their "integrity" to keep it confidential. Best guess is that the "settlement" was: they dropped the assault charge (already questionable anyways) and Thurman didn't make an issue of the extortion attempt.
June 8, 200719 yr Seems fair..... :irked: Ok I meant even if there aren't being charges brought up, I think something did happen and at this point he's an idiot for being anywhere that something like this could take place.
